Hughes Goes Back to his Roots for St. Pierre
Matt Hughes was readying himself for one of the biggest grudge matches in Ultimate Fighting Championship history when Matt Serra had to pull out of the fight due to a back injury. Instead, Georges St-Pierre stepped in on short notice to settle the score with the former UFC welterweight champion in the third match of a series in which each fighter has won one bout apiece.

'UFC: Best of 2007' Headed to HD DVD
Mixed martial arts fans, mark your calendars: First Look is bringing the Ultimate Fighting Championship's year-end bash 'UFC: The Best of 2007' to HD DVD this March. Originally airing earlier this month on Spike TV, 'The Best of 2007' is a nearly three-hour extravaganza of the UFC's craziest bouts of the year, featuring bone-crunching highlights of now-famous matches between its biggest stars. First Look has set a March 25th HD DVD arrival for the title, day-and-date with the DVD version. (Although First Look supports both next-gen disc formats, they've not yet announced a Blu-ray version of 'Best of 2007.') Extras are set to include audio commentary by top UFC stars, multiple featurettes, and more to be announced. Tech specs were not available at press time, but we'll keep you posted. First Look has set a $26.98 list price for the HD DVD.

Cro Cop Returns
What I’ve learned from my friendship with Mirko Cro Cop is that you can never be sure what he is up to. He prefers to keep his thoughts for himself; he’s always been a man of a few words. His absence in the media often results in completely misleading stories, coming from people who are giving their best shot in evaluating Mirko’s position and the nature of his future plans....

McCully misses Deadline for Kongo Fight?????
If true, this is very interesting to me as i saw this as a step down for Kongo anyways. Who y'all think they will have to replace McCully in this fight? I know its wishful thinking but it seems like a good opportunity for the Ufc to get "The Pitbull" on the "supposed" CBS card!

Wandy and Chuck articles at Foxsports
Just thought I'd throw these articles in the mix... They have a little bit of fighter interviews in there, but it's more just hype for the fight... Got me a little fired up, so enjoy... Also nice to see that Fox sports has an entire section labeled MMA (and that's where they hide their boxing stuff too ) Sorry if the stuff's already been posted, I don't usually post in the news forum

Justin McCully Offered Bout with Cheick Kongo at UFC 81 “Breaking Point”
UFC heavyweight Justin McCully has been offered a bout with Frenchman Cheick Kongo at UFC 81 “Breaking Point” on Saturday, Feb. 2 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, The Fight Network has confirmed with McCully’s camp. Currently overseas on a goodwill United Service Organizations tour in Iraq with fellow Team Punishment member Tito Ortiz, the 31-year-old has neither accepted nor turned down the bout, though his answer is expected Wednesday. If he accepts, McCully (8-3-2) would have six weeks to train for the contendership bout. McCully earned a unanimous decision over Antoni Hardonk (4-3) at UFC Fight night 10 on April 5 in Las Vegas. Kongo (10-3-1) is riding high after a key victory over Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic (22-6-2) at UFC 75 this past September in London.

UFC 79 Viewing Parties Feature Serra, Koscheck, Griffin and Others
If you can’t make it to Las Vegas for next weekend’s UFC 79 event, a few notable UFC fighters are hoping you’ll join them at viewing parties they have planned for the Dec. 29 pay-per-view event. As we previously reported, Matt Serra will host a UFC-sponsored party at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Serra was originally slated to defend his title against Matt Hughes at the event, but when a herniated disc forced him off the card, he was booked for hosting duties in his home state instead.

A ‘Phoenix' Rises From Japan
Not many are very familiar with UFC middleweight Yushin Okami, let alone that his nickname is "Thunder." As a reference to Japanese pro-wrestler Jyushin Thunder Liger, the homage is perhaps lost on most of the Western audience.

Former UFC Champion Steve Jennum Attacked
After his taste of the limelight as the winner of the UFC 3 tournament, Steve Jennum made news again, this time in his other role as a police officer. While off-duty on December 17, Jennum was attacked from behind by three assailants wielding a bottle as a weapon. Jennum prevented himself from being struck by the bottle and struggled with the accused until one of them pulled a knife and Jennum vacated the scene. "He was able to prevent the suspect from striking him from behind with the bottle and struggled with the victims, obviously his training added to what he was able to do," said Omaha Police Sgt. Teresa Negron.
