New Bellator champ Eduardo Dantas expects teammate vs. teammate possibility
(mmajunkie.com)
Teammates fighting teammates may soon be an issue that isn't identified solely with the UFC. One of the sport's other top promotions may soon face that possibility. After all, newly crowned Bellator champion bantamweight Eduardo Dantas expects friend and teammate Marcos Galvao to win the season-six bantamweight tournament and claim a title shot. And Dantas isn't sure he's ready to fight him.

Bruno Santos out due to injury, Andreas Spang to face Brian Rogers at Bellator 66
(sherdog.com)
Unbeaten Brazilian Bruno “Carioca” Santos has been forced from Bellator Fighting Championships’ sixth-season middleweight tournament due to a shoulder injury. Santos, who earned his slot in the tournament semifinals by outpointing Giva Santana on March 16, was slated to face Brian Rogers this Friday at Bellator 66. Instead, promotion officials today announced that Rogers will take on late replacement and Bellator newcomer Andreas Spang (Pictured) at the I-X Center in Cleveland. “I don’t know anything about my new opponent,” Rogers wrote on Twitter. “I don’t care, so don’t ask me about it. You have Google just like me, guys.

Bellator 64 TV Ratings Match Season High, but Future on Spike Holds the Key
(mmaweekly.com)
The TV ratings for Bellator 64 on Friday night tied the Season 6 high for the promotion, drawing 175,000 viewers on MTV2. The season low to this point is 108,000 for Bellator 61, with the five weeks thus far averaging 153,400 viewers per episode. Those numbers pale in comparison to the oft maligned TUF: Live TV ratings that just dipped below one million viewers for the first time in Ultimate Fighter history, but the comparison is a difficult one to make. Just like UFC programming on Fuel TV doesn’t do as well as programming on FX, Bellator’s programming on MTV2 suffers from the lower availability of the network and MTV2 not being known for sports programming. Bellator’s season average of viewers per episode has steadily declined over the past three seasons...

Ben Askren Happy with Defense; Not Going Toe-to-Toe with One-Punch KO Power
(mmaweekly.com)
His style is not flashy, but his performance was near flawless as he dominated Douglas Lima for all five rounds of their championship fight. The Windsor, Ontario, Canada, crowd, however, was predominantly unimpressed as they shouted boos throughout the main event. Aware of the crowd’s negative reaction, Askren made no apologies for the manner in which he won the 50-45 unanimous decision. “His stand-up isn’t something you want to mess with. If the Canadian fans want to stand on their feet for 25 minutes with Douglas, well, they wouldn’t last that long because he’d probably finish them earlier. My striking has improved tremendously, but that doesn’t mean that I’m going to stand around for 25 minutes and slug it out with someone that has one-punch knockout power. That’s ridiculous. If I wanted to do that I’d go to the sport of kickboxing.”

Bellator signs Russian heavyweight prospect Ruslan Magomedov
(mmajunkie.com)
Russian heavyweight Ruslan Magomedov (7-1 MMA, 0-0 BFC) is the latest addition to the Bellator Fighting Championships roster. Magomedov's debut fight has yet to be scheduled, but he could fight in a season-six non-tournament fight. At 6-foot-4, the striking specialist has the size to compete in the sport's top promotions, and Bellator gives him an opportunity to make a name for himself in the sport. He recently downed former UFC champ Ricco Rodriguez in a three-round decision win at United Glory 15, giving Magomedov the first "name" victory of his career. Ruslan has fought exclusively in Russia and Ukraine this far in his career, which already includes four wins by knockout, two via decision and one b way of submission.

Is Pat Curran the No. 2 Featherweight in the World Behind Jose Aldo?
(mmaweekly.com)
The rise of Pat Curran has been something just about everybody has been able to watch ever since the young fighter made his first appearance on the TapouT reality show a few years back. Since that time, Curran pulled off probably the biggest upset, at the time, in Bellator Fighting Championships history when he defeated former UFC contender Roger Huerta. He then made it all the way to a shot against then Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez, and despite going into the fight as an over inflated featherweight still managed to go five rounds with one of the top 155-pound fighters in the world. That’s when Curran started to hit his stride.

Will Free Agency Take Both Eddie Alvarez and Hector Lombard from Bellator?
(mmaweekly.com)
In the realm of baseball names like Babe Ruth, Ted Williams and Willie Mays are synonymous with most sports fans, but if you’ve ever heard the name Curt Flood, he’s a player that helped change baseball forever. In 1969, Flood challenged the status quo of the contracts in Major League Baseball, and although it took a few years, the ultimately decision led to free agency in the national pastime. Free agency has become commonplace in every sport from football to baseball to basketball and even mixed martial arts. For Bellator Fighting Championships, they are about to feel the real bite of free agency for the first time in their 4 years of existence. Former Bellator lightweight champion and arguably the face of Bellator Eddie Alvarez, along with middleweight champion Hector Lombard are both coming up to the end of their respective deals and now the organization has to get into the business of negotiating to keep two of their biggest and most popular stars...

(mmajunkie.com)
A welterweight rematch between DREAM champion Marius Zaromskis (16-6 MMA, 0-0 BFC) and Waachiim Spiritwolf (9-9-1 MMA, 1-0 BFC) will be part of next month's Bellator 68 event. The fight marks the promotional debut of Zaromskis, who signed a multi-fight deal with Bellator earlier this year. Bellator 68 takes place May 11 at Palladium Ballroom in Caesars Atlantic City in New Jersey. The night's main card airs on MTV2, and Spike.com carries the prelims. Zaromskis vs. Spiritwolf likely will be part of the televised lineup. The fighters first met in late 2010 at Strikeforce Challengers 12, where the bout ended after just six seconds when Spiritwolf suffered an accidental eye poke and couldn't continue.

David Rickels: From Suburban Kimbo to Bellator Contender
(mmafighting.com)
For David Rickels, a career in fighting started in his hometown of Derby, Kansas, where he was something of a suburban Kimbo Slice, hosting boxing scraps in his backyard. The fights gained enough renown or perhaps infamy there that he once got arrested for providing the venue, and the fights soon after stopped. As it turns out, that was a good thing, because it led Rickels to kickboxing, and eventually mixed martial arts, where he's currently unbeaten at 10-0 after a 22-second knockout of Jordan Smith in the first round of the Bellator welterweight tournament. Unlike Kimbo, Rickels didn't gain any underground fame for his backyard fighting exploits, and no video of him exists on the internet, but he still recognizes the time as a springboard to his current success. "I’ve always been into the whole fighting thing," he told MMA Fighting. "We did it for fun. We used to just brawl in the backyard and see who was the toughest that day. It was the thing to do back in the day. Then I eventually started training for real. I had wrestled for a couple years but I really wasn’t into it that much. I was more into the party scene at the time, unfortunately. But I ended up joining a gym, working hard, and now I’m here."

Bellator FC Reality Show Coming to Spike TV in 2013
(mmavalor.com)
Bellator Fighting Championship will begin airing on Spike TV in 2013 and today the two announced plans for unscripted reality show. Partnering with the acclaimed producer Bertram van Munster, the three will create a cutting-edge, one-hour series that will showcase the fighters from the Bellator Fighting Championship. “Some of the most physically gifted and fascinating athletes in the world fight in Bellator, and I believe they make ideal subjects for an innovative new non-scripted series,” noted van Munster. Bertram van Munster is an eight-time Emmy® Award winner and the visionary behind the popular reality series “The Amazing Race.” Not much was revealed about the show and it will work and further details will be kept a secret until later this year.

(mmajunkie.com)

Bellator 63 results: Amoussou, Baker, Rickels, Saunders advance to welterweight semis
(mmajunkie.com)
Karl Amoussou wanted to make a statement and did just that in the opening-round of Bellator's season-six welterweight tournament. The Frenchman sliced through season-five tournament vet Chris Lozano, cinching a first-round submission to advance to the semifinals. Amoussou joined Bryan Baker, David Rickels and Ben Saunders in the winner's circle on Friday at Bellator 62, which took place at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., and aired live on MTV2. Amoussou had riled Lozano up prior to the fight by promising to make the Bellator vet his punching bag, and the two nearly clashed in the staredown prior to the opening bell. But when the bout got underway, it was Lozano who circled cautiously, and the audience quickly voiced its displeasure. After an extended feeling-out period, Amoussou drew blood with a high kick that slammed into Lozano's head. Lozano caught it and took the fight to the mat, but he was quickly reversed and flattened out. Amoussou (14-4-2 MMA, 2-1 BFC) secured a rear-naked choke, and in a flash, the fight was over at the 2:05 mark of the first...

Bellator Fighting Championships signs Brazilian heavyweight Vinicius Queiroz
(mmajunkie.com)
Brazilian giant Vinicius Queiroz (5-2 MMA, 0-0 BFC) is the latest addition to the Bellator Fighting Championships roster. MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has confirmed with sources close to the promotion that "Spartan" has agreed to a deal with the promotion and could make his Bellator debut in an upcoming season-six event. A member of Brazil's famed Chute Boxe academy, Queiroz hasn't fought since a UFC 120 loss to Rob Broughton in October 2010. The 6-foot-7 Queiroz has never fought in the U.S. He competed six times in his native Brazil before signing with the UFC in 2010. He then competed at UFC 120, which took place in London, where he was dominating Broughton before ultimately slowing in the final frame and succumbing to a come-from-behind submission. Following the loss, Queiroz tested positive for the banned substance Stanozolol and was released by the promotion...

Champ Cole Konrad vs. Eric Prindle added to Bellator 65
(mmajunkie.com)
Bellator officials wasted little time in booking a title fight between heavyweight champion Cole Konrad (8-0 MMA, 6-0 BFC) and de facto tournament winner Eric Prindle (7-1 MMA, 3-0 BFC). That bout will take place place April 13 at Bellator 65 in New Jersey, Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney announced Thursday on "MMA Uncensored Live" on Spike TV. The booking comes after two scheduled rematches between season-five tournament finalists Prindle and Thiago Santos were scrapped in recent weeks. Bellator 65 takes place at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. The main card airs on MTV2, and the prelims stream on Spike.com. Konrad vs. Prindle will be part of the televised lineup.

If not cleared to fight by June, Bellator's Brian Foster vows retirement
(mmajunkie.com)
Brian Foster said he's in the best shape of his life and he's never felt better. Unfortunately, a paperwork snafu dredged up his past and brought to nothing the 12 weeks of work he put in for his since-postponed Bellator debut. Now, the fighter told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) he will retire if doesn't fight by June. "I'm not going to give to a sport that's just not giving back to me," Foster (18-5 MMA, 0-0 BFC) said. Foster was scheduled to appear in Bellator's season-six welterweight tournament, which kicks off Friday at Bellator 63. But Jordan Smith replaced him when the Mohegan Sun Commission declined him clearance for the MTV2-televised event, which takes place at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. Smith meets Foster's original opponent, David Rickels. Foster said he is medically cleared to fight, but the paperwork proving so didn't get to the commission in time.

Despite apparent support, Thiago Santos' camp not entirely happy with Bellator brass
(mmajunkie.com)
Thiago Santos' manager makes no excuses for his fighter missing weight for Friday's Bellator 62 event. That said, he's not exactly thrilled at the circumstances that were presented to his client. Despite Bellator Fighting Championships CEO Bjorn Rebney's decision not to cut Santos for the infraction and to instead help connect him with a nutritional expert, manager Josef Borges believes the company should take a little responsibility for the misstep. "What happened with Thiago was that he needed to cut a lot of weight for the fight on March 16," Borges told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) in his native Portuguese. "He cut 12 kilograms (27.5 pounds) up until 1 p.m. of March 15, when I called him to inform him the fight was postponed. At that moment, he was only 3 kilograms (6.6 pounds) from making weight...

M-1 Global wins judgment against Vyacheslav Vasilevsky, wants fighter back
(mmajunkie.com)
M-1 Global has staked claim to Bellator middleweight Vyacheslav Vasilevsky in a Dutch court and plans to pursue the fighter in the U.S. A judgment won this past Thursday awards damages to the Russia-based promotion that amount to several hundred thousand euros and bars him from fighting in Bellator or any other organization. Neither Vasilevsky or his representatives were present in court. "We're disappointed that we had to take this step," M-1 Global Director of Operations Evgeni Kogan told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). M-1 asserts that the middleweight (16-1 MMA, 1-0 BFC) has been in breach of contract for over a year and is tied to the promotion until mid-2013. Vasilevsky signed with Bellator this past November and made his promotional debut this past Friday at Bellator 61, where he advanced to the semifinals of the promotion's season-six tournament with a decision over Victor O'Donnell (11-4 MMA, 0-2 BFC).

Fight Path: With help from ESPN and Edgar, Bellator 62's Rad Martinez getting noticed
(mmajunkie.com)
Physically, Rad Martinez's father is doing well. He may still be in a vegetative state – the one that has engulfed his life since a 1991 car accident – but after doctor check-ups, Martinez hears the same joke. As a caregiver who also happens to be an MMA fighter and splits his time between the duties, Martinez doesn't get tired of them. "They say, 'Your dad is healthier than you are,'" Martinez told MMAjunkie.com. Martinez gives plenty of attention to keep his father that way. And when he gets to spend time on his own career, that works out pretty well, too. With newfound fame following an ESPN "Outside the Lines" piece on him and his father that aired this past summer, Martinez (11-2 MMA, 1-0 BFC) will take on Douglas Frey (10-7 MMA, 0-0 BFC) in a featherweight fight at Bellator 62 on Friday in Laredo, Texas. The West Jordan, Utah resident hopes that it's the next step to entering a Bellator tournament and growing as a fighter, even if he started his career later than some.
