UFC heavyweight Shane Del Rosario clings to life, possibly with rare heart condition
(mmajunkie.com)After collapsing and going into full cardiac arrest, UFC heavyweight Shane del Rosario remains in a Newport Beach, Calif. hospital, UFC officials and the fighter’s manager announced on Friday.
According to an update the UFC and manager Jason House issued on Friday, doctors haven’t ruled out the possibility that the 30-year-old fighter is suffering from a heart ailment called long QT syndrome.
“After arriving at the emergency room in full cardiac arrest on Tuesday morning he was resuscitated to stable rhythm and blood pressure, but has not regained consciousness. Doctors believe he may suffer from a rare condition called Long QT Syndrome, which is a genetic anomaly that can cause a sudden and life threatening heart rhythm abnormality, and may result in sudden death. Tragically, it strikes healthy young people and often is the first and only presentation of a heart problem.”
UFC planning ‘closer to 50' events in 2014 – with new online network
(mmajunkie.com)According to UFC President Dana White, the organization plans to host 50 worldwide events next year, and a new online/digital network will be the exclusive way to watch some of them.
Although White shared only basic details about the new venture, he said the new network will serve an important purpose. Events will continue to air on pay-per-view, FOX, FOX Sports 1 and FOX Sports 2 in 2014, but some of the UFC’s international events are geared toward region-specific audiences. However, if you’re in the UFC’s substantial North American fan base, the online network will assure you can watch all those overseas bouts.
“People don’t understand … the fights that we do in China are for China,” he told MMAjunkie. “The fights we do in Europe are going to be for Europe. But with this new digital network that we’re launching, people who are hardcore fans and want to watch the fights will be able to.
“It’s a completely new experience because what it’s going to be based around is live fights. Obviously, you’re going to have access to the library and lots of other programming that’s going to be on the network, but there’s going to be a ridiculous amount of live fights.”
WSOF Matchmaker Ali Abdel-Aziz Has A Few Choice Words To Describe Bellator’s Actions: “Slimy”, “Scummy” And “Dirty”
(bjpenn.com)Bellator and the UFC do not get along.
I’m not speaking of the fighters themselves, or even the companies as a whole. I’m speaking of the talking heads of the two companies, UFC President Dana White and CEO of Bellator Fighting Championships, Bjorn Rebney.
These two men have always been quick to trade passive-aggressive digs at each other (and just plain-old aggressive digs), posturing and arguing over who has the better product; the better champions; the better fights. And now a third party is throwing his hat in the proverbial cage: WSOF matchmaker, Ali Abdel-Aziz.
