Next Stop On UFC World Tour-Germany

UFC Quick Quote: Dana White is subtle when it comes to Tito Ortiz
“Tito is a f—ing idiot. He’s one of the dumbest human beings I’ve ever met. Everything that comes out of his mouth makes no sense…. I put up with his s— when he was a good fighter. He’s not anymore…. He’s not in anybody’s Top 10. I have no interest whatsoever in being in the Tito Ortiz business…. I’ve never wanted to see anyone get their ass kicked worse than I want to see Tito get his kicked next Saturday night.” – UFC President Dana White beat around the bush in a recent UFC 84: “Ill Will” conference call earlier this afternoon when Tito Ortiz was mentioned. White decided to remain tight-lipped about his thoughts on who he wants to win when Ortiz steps inside the Octagon for possibly the last time against Lyoto Machida at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on May 24. Perhaps closer to fight night we’ll get a better feel for what he really thinks about the match up and “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy.” Stay tuned. _____________________________________________________________ CLASSIC whoops forgot link

B.J. Penn: "I'm going to be the bigger man" at UFC 84
With one of the year's most-highly anticipated match-ups a little more than a week away, it should be of little surprise to anyone that the always-confident B.J. Penn (12-4-1, 7-3-1 UFC) feels sure he will walk away from his UFC lightweight title bout with ex-champ Sean Sherk (32-2-1, 4-2 UFC) victorious. What may be surprising is how "The Prodigy" feels he will defeat "The Muscle Shark" -- by putting Sherk on his back. Penn discussed the upcoming main-event bout of "UFC 84: Ill Will" while a guest on Thursday's edition of TAGG Radio (www.taggradio.com), a content partner of MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). "I'll be able to put Sean Sherk on his back, and from there pass his guard, mount him, and start beating on him," Penn said. A hallmark of Sherk's career has been the ability to utilize superior strength, wrestling and conditioning to control his opponents on the mat, and ground-and-pound his way to victory. The Hilo, Hawaii native doesn't believe that will be the case in this title bout. "I definitely feel that I'm going to be the bigger man when we step in to the ring," Penn said. "I feel I'm going to be a stronger man also. ... I'm not going to let him hold me down and do his thing where he tries to rabbit punch [me] to death." WAR BJ!

It was recently confirmed that Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight contenders Roger Huerta and Kenny Florian will face each other in August at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minn. UFC president Dana White on Thursday said that the winner of that bout at UFC 87 is likely to be next in line for the winner of next Saturday’s lightweight title bout between current champion B.J. Penn and former titleholder Sean Sherk. During a pre-fight media call for UFC 84, a question arose as to whether or not the winner of the lightweight title next week would move up to challenge Georges St. Pierre in a dream bout of sorts. White said that it was highly unlikely and a premature move for either Penn or Sherk. “I like to see guys clean out a division and there be no doubt who is the best 155-pounder, 170, 185-pounder, etc. You find out who the best is because these guys clean out a division,” commented White. That said, regardless of which fighter walks out of the Octagon with the belt on May 24, he doesn’t believe that Penn or Sherk would have “cleaned out the division” at that point, citing Huerta and Florian. “I think the winner (between Penn and Sherk)... there's another fight between Roger Huerta and Kenny Florian, I think the winner of that fight will fight the winner of this fight and let's say it's B.J. or Sean (who wins that match-up), I would consider that cleaning out the division,” stated the UFC president. “Then I would sit down and talk to them about where they wanted to go from there.” _______________________________________________ makes total since, i can't think of who else would get the shot

Kimbo-Tyson More Than a Heartbeat Away
Though Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson still has British bomber James Thompson to contend with at EliteXC's debut with CBS on May 31, it hasn't stopped potential suitors from getting in line for a shot at the Internet legend. Challengers like Strikeforce heavyweight contender Paul Buentello and boxing implant Eric "Butterbean" Esch have publicly voiced their interest in taking on the rising star. But a rumored bout between "Slice" and 41-year-old former boxing champion Mike Tyson is not in the works, despite various Web site reports posted Thursday stating that the once-feared pugilist has verbally agreed to square off with Slice, 36, in the EliteXC cage.

Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua wants Chuck Liddell to wait to fight him
Quoteworthy: “I respect him a lot as a fighter and I think he, besides being a warrior, is top of the category. I’ve been watching him since I started fighting. My fans can be sure I’ll be back at 100 percent. I’d like for him to wait and fight me at the end of the year. If I could choose who I’d fight on my return, it would be him, for sure, and I hope he accepts.” Maurcio “Shogun” Rua — who is recovering from a bad knee injury that required surgery to repair — wants to next fight former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell. Both 205-pound fighters were supposed to lock horns during the main event at UFC 85: “Bedlam” at the O2 Arena in London, England, on June 7. However, injuries to the fighters forced them both off the card. Liddell will more than likely be able to return to action much sooner than Rua because his injury was the less serious of the two (hamstring). Rua plans to return to training in three weeks.

Once laughed at, the lightweights are taking over
Jens Pulver's Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight title defense against B.J. Penn in January of 2002 should have been the last time anyone questioned the idea of having 155-pounders headline a pay-per-view event. The belief that undersized fighters could deliver at the till was ludicrous to many. American mixed martial arts fans were so obsessed with heavier fighters and their presumptive knockout power, they argued, that there wasn't time to care about skinny lightweights. Yet there they were, "L'il Evil" and "The Prodigy," overshadowing "The Iceman." And Murilo Bustamante's middleweight-title win over Dave Menne in the Octagon? Just a mere prelude to the evening's main event.

Cale Yarbrough's Episode 7 Blog
So, here goes another blog. I ate sushi with some friends and wasn't able to get home in time to catch the episode so we walked to my buddy Gardner's bar and watched it there. So I wasn't really able to catch the audio but I was able to see what was going down. Gerald picked Amir which seemed like a really good match up. We all knew what Gerald's gameplan was. Gerald is a big, strong wrestler so we knew he would try to slam Amir on his head and smash him on the ground (which he did).... (Check out the rest of his blog on his site.)

‘MMA Live’ on ESPN.com to debut online tonight with host Kenny Florian
ESPN — the worldwide leader in sports – is set to debut a half-hour long online show on ESPN.com dubbed “MMA Live,” which will be hosted by top UFC lightweight contender, Kenny Florian, according to MMAWeekly.com. “MMA Live” will debut on ESPN.com today (Thursday, May 15) at 7 p.m. ET and will cover the latest mixed martial arts news from the top organizations in the sport such as UFC, Elite XC, Dream and others. It will eventually — if all goes well — feature fighters interviews and other specials. Here’s a snip from “Ken-Flo:” “(It’s) kind of a fast-paced show on the current news and events going on in the sport. There’s a whole lot of guys at ESPN that have been trying to get this done I guess for two years…. It’s strictly going to be on ESPN.com. It’s not going to be on TV as of right now. Basically they’re going to do a run for three shows on ESPN.com and see what the response is, see how it does. Then if it goes well, we’ll do a regular thing on the Internet, and if it does even better, then possibly you’ll see it on TV.” Florian will be joined by co-hosts John Anik and Franklin McNeil from the Newark Star-Ledger.
