Woodley vs. Maia at UFC 214, winner gets GSP
(mixedmartialarts.com)UFC 214 on July 29 in Anaheim, California is shaping up to be an extraordinary card, with three title fights. Light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier will defend his title against Jon Jones. Cristiane Justino and Tonya Evinger will fight for the vacant women’s featherweight belt. And during an appearance on UFC Tonight on FS1 UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley announced he would fight Demian Maia.
Scott Coker expects Bellator to do Ryan Bader vs. ‘King Mo’ before ‘end of the year’
(https:)Ryan Bader will likely defend his newly captured Bellator light heavyweight title before the year is over, according to Bellator president Scott Coker.
“Bader should fight ‘King Mo’ (Muhammed Lawal) next,” Coker said Monday on The MMA Hour. “King Mo’s ready to go down to 205 and ready to fight before the end of the year, so maybe we’ll have Bader and King Mo before the end of the year.”
Cortney Casey: Texas doping case ‘tarnished’ my reputation, career accolades for nothing
(https:)Cortney Casey is still holding out hope that the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) lifts sanctions from a controversial doping case that started last month. But she knows damage — to her character and career reputation — have already been done, and those are going to be more difficult to wipe away.
“You know how it is in the media,” Casey told MMA Fighting. “One to two days and it's forgot about. I’m already a cheater. I’ve already, in their eyes, tested positive for steroids. I didn’t test positive for anything.”
Ngannou vs. dos Santos official at UFC 215
(mixedmartialarts.com)The rumored fight between surging UFC heavyweight Francis Ngannou and former champion Junior dos Santos is now official for UFC 215 on September 9, 2017 at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta. Ilir Latifi vs. Tyson Pedro at light heavyweight was also confirmed at UFC 215. No headline event has been announced.
Ngannou, so, is on a nine-fight win streak, five in the UFC, in a division that is extremely short of streaks. For example, no heavyweight champion has ever defended his title successfully more than twice. All of Ngannou’s opponents were dropped within the first two rounds. Most recently, a tUFC on Fox 23, stopped former champion Andrei Arlovski at 1:32 of Round 1.
CSAC declines to license Barao at 135 for UFC 214
(mixedmartialarts.com)In the craziest fight cancellation since Kevin Randleman slipped on pipes backstage and knocked himself out of the UFC 24 title defense with Pedro Rizzo, on Friday, August 29, 2014 Nova Uniao fighter Renan Barao fainted and hit his head while cutting weight, and was out of the title fight challenge with then champion T.J. Dillashaw at UFC 177 in Sacramento, California.
The good news was Barao didn’t die. Less than a year ago, on September 26, 2013, sometime Nova Uniao flyweight fighter Leandro ‘Feijao’ Souza, 26, passed away from a stroke while cutting weight for Shooto Brazil 43 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Friends reported Souza had taken the diuretic Furosemide (Lasix) on both the day before and the day of his passing. Souza had two pounds to go to make weight.
Donald Cerrone injured, Robbie Lawler bout likely moving to UFC 214
(https:)Maybe third time’s the charm.
The planned bout between UFC welterweights Donald Cerrone and Robbie Lawler is almost certainly off UFC 213 and likely to be rescheduled for UFC 214, sources tell MMA Fighting. Cerrone has suffered an undisclosed injury that prevents competing on the planned July 8th date, but doesn’t preclude a relatively short turnaround.
Felice Herrig: UFC promoting me in 'hot girl' fights isn't good enough
(mmajunkie.com)In the moments following her impressive performance at UFC Fight Night 112, Felice Herrig fought back tears as she talked about feeling “not young and beautiful enough” for the UFC to want to promote her.
The frustration for Herrig (13-6 MMA, 4-1 UFC) seemed to stem from the fact that, while she’s on a three-fight winning streak, which includes knocking off two previously undefeated opponents, the 32-year-old veteran wonders if the opportunity to become a star is out of reach.
Scott Coker likes Primus vs. Chandler 2, Bader vs. 'King Mo' title fights after Bellator NYC
(mmajunkie.com)Perhaps the greatest benefit to Bellator’s recent pay-per-view event was the fact it set up some notable matchups for the future.
Bellator NYC took place Saturday at Madison Square Garden in New York, and the main card aired on pay-per-view following the Bellator 180 prelims on Spike and MMAjunkie.
Chael Sonnen (29-15-1 MMA, 1-1 BMMA) won the main event while Matt Mitrione (12-5 MMA, 3-0 BMMA) scored a big knockout victory in the co-headliner. Douglas Lima (29-6 MMA, 11-2 BMMA) defended his welterweight strap while Brent Primus (8-0 MMA, 6-0 BMMA) and Ryan Bader (23-5 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) claimed gold.

Scott Coker expects another Bellator pay-per-view early next year
(https:)It took three years for Bellator to do its second pay-per-view show, but based on talk by Bellator and Spike executives, it won't be that long of a wait for the third go-around.
"I think we were trending all night, we were No. 1 on Twitter all night," Bellator president Scott Coker said Saturday night after Bellator NYC. "This night had a lot of heat and was promoted extremely well. This was our first one, so we're excited to come back and do a pay-per-view maybe the beginning of next year and keep going. We're not going to just do it every month, but when we do this, there will be mega fights and big events just like this."

Anti-doping chief: UFC may steer away from Texas after Cortney Casey cleared of wrongdoing
(mmajunkie.com)According to the UFC’s anti-doping czar, Cortney Casey has been cleared of wrongdoing both by a WADA-accredited lab and a testing laboratory hired by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation after she failed a post-fight drug test at UFC 211, which took place May 13 in Dallas.
After an initial test by a laboratory hired by the commission revealed a testosterone-to-epitestosterone (T/E) ratio slightly higher than 4-1, Casey’s “B” sample came back negative for banned substances and synthetic testosterone, Jeff Novitzky, the promotion’s VP of athlete health and performance, told MMAjunkie.
