Maximum Fighting Championship (MFC) is For Sale
The Maximum Fighting Championship, one of the eminently exciting brands of mixed martial arts to ever be at the forefront of the sport, is formally announcing it is for sale. Mark Pavelich, Owner & President of the MFC, put more than 15 years into the business and grew it from a Canadian original on the MMA scene to a frontrunner in North America and ultimately into one of the most prominent shows in the world. “The Maximum Fighting Championship was my passion and my labor of love. It was not just an MMA show. It was a professional sports organization,” said Pavelich. The Maximum Fighting Championship brought top-level attention and profile to its athletes. Every one of the MFC’s champions progressed to the UFC, and more than 50 of its fighters competed at the highest levels of the sport. Included in the MFC’s extensive list of notable athletes are Patrick Cote, Jason MacDonald, Benson Henderson, Sam Alvey, Paul Daley, Anthony Birchak, Ryan McGillivray, Tom Watson, Roger Hollett, Antonio McKee, Thales Leites, Emmanuel Newton, and Douglas Lima.

Boxing: Nike Drops Manny Pacquiao After Anti-Gay Slurs
The rumors were swirling all morning but on Wednesday afternoon, apparel monolith Nike officially dropped boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao from its roster. Pacquiao, who is a devout Catholic, came under a tremendous amount of scrutiny during the past two days for saying in an interview with Filipino station TV5 that he greatly opposes gay marriage, even comparing gays to animals. “Woman was made for man, man was made for woman. It’s common sense,” the eight-division world champion said. “Will you see any animals where male is to male and female is to female? The animals are better. They know how to distinguish… If we approve male on male, female on female,” he added. Then man is worse than animal.”

MMA writer accuses BJ Penn of sexual assault and drug use
BJ Penn's retirement hasn't exactly been a quiet one. Not long after hanging up the gloves, the former UFC champion found himself on the wrong side of the law, following an apparent parking lot scrap with a friend that saw him get a fresh mugshot. The issue was apparently resolved after Penn agreed to pay the man's medical bills for injuries stemming from the fight. Now, Penn has another public relations headache that might become something more serious. Former BJPenn.com website writer Pedro Alex Carrasco took to Twitter on Tuesday, February 16th to share a few choice pieces of information about his former employer. Carrasco who parted ways with the site back in October of last year has been relatively quiet on Twitter since leaving his post, but his recent messages leveled some heavy accusations:

UFC lightweight Gleison Tibau says he’ll drop USADA appeal, accept 2-year punishment
UFC lightweight Gleison Tibau expects to drop the appeal of two positive drug tests stemming from his most recent fight, he told MMAjunkie. In doing so, he will accept a likely two-year suspension from the UFC’s anti-doping partner, USADA. “I’ll take the minimum punishment under the new rules, which is a two-year suspension,” he said today. “So I’ll take the two years.” USADA officials could not immediately be reached for comment. The firm handles drug testing and results management for the UFC. According to the UFC’s anti-doping policy, athletes who are found to have committed an anti-doping violation face a two-year suspension for an “non-specified substance or prohibited method” and a one-year suspension for a specified substance. Up to two years can be added to a sentence where “aggravating circumstances” are present. They also risk a disqualification of bout results “including, without limitation, forfeiture of title, ranking, purse or other compensation.”

Scott Coker: Bellator did talk with Alistair Overeem's reps, but 'we chose not to make an offer'
During an appearance on Monday's The MMA Hour, Alistair Overeem said that he never engaged in talks with any other promotion during free agency before deciding to re-sign with the UFC. Technically, that might be the case. Overeem himself didn't -- but, according to Bellator president Scott Coker -- his representatives did. "I don't want to make a big deal out of it, but of course there were negotiations going on," Coker told MMA Fighting on Tuesday. "It's true that Alistair wasn't talking to me directly, because his agent or manager or lawyer was talking to me. I think that's kind of what the story is, and negotiations went back and forth, and at the end of the day we chose not to make an offer. And really what it came down to was a value proposition of what he wanted and what he thought was the market value for him.
