Al Iaquinta meets Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 223
The lightweight title still will be up for grabs in the UFC 223 main event. Khabib Nurmagomedov (25-0 MMA, 9-0 UFC) will stay in the headliner in New York and will fight Al Iaquinta (13-3-1 MMA, 8-2 UFC), who will move up from the main-card opening fight against Paul Felder (15-3 MMA, 7-3 UFC) for the fight. A person close to the fight revealed the news to MMAjunkie today. The person requested anonymity because he was not authorized to reveal the booking news. But because Iaquinta weighed in for his fight with Felder at 155.2 pounds, he will be ineligible to win the title since that number is two-tenths of a pound over the title-fight limit.

Ariel Helwani - @arielhelwani Dana White just announced that Al Iaquinta, if he wins, will be considered UFC champion. White said that NYSAC may not recognize him as champ because of the .2 but he will. That is a new one.

Max Holloway ‘medically unfit to fight,’ Anthony Pettis to step in against Khabib at UFC 223
The UFC 223 disasters continue to pile on. A few days ago, the card was supposed to be headlined by Tony Ferguson vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov, before a freak incident left the interim champ injured. Yesterday, Conor McGregor’s bus attack also led to three other cancelled bouts. Max Holloway stepped in to try and save the main event, but there were concerns about his massive weight cut all week. Friday morning, the featherweight champion failed to make it to the weigh ins and was subsequently declared “medically unfit to fight” by the New York State Athletic Commission. Dana White announced it as the early weigh-ins were happening.

Ray Borg's UFC 223 fight scrapped with eye issue reportedly from Conor McGregor bus attack
Conor McGregor never has claimed to have much interest in making friends, but his visit to New York today may have created a lot more enemies than he ever could have expected. After the lightweight champion attacked a bus at Barclays Center following a media day for UFC 223, along with a group of other people with him, a total of three fights have been removed from the event. Ray Borg (11-3 MMA, 5-3 UFC) will miss his flyweight fight against Brandon Moreno (14-4 MMA, 3-1 UFC), a Borg team member told MMAjunkie. According to Azevedo, Borg late today headed to the hospital because he was having difficulty opening his eyes from what he believed to be pieces of glass from the window McGregor broke out of the fighter and crew bus by throwing a dolly into it.

Conor McGregor, crew allegedly cause chaotic scene after UFC 223 media day, Chiesa cut.
Conor McGregor has made his presence felt at UFC 223. McGregor and his entourage stormed the Barclays Center following UFC 223 media day in Brooklyn on Thursday and caused a wild scene that left one individual — lightweight contender Michael Chiesa — with a laceration. Chiesa is scheduled to fight Anthony Pettis on Saturday night. At the moment, the severity of his injury is unclear. MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani reported that McGregor’s team ultimately attacked a van filled with fighters just as it was departing the arena, banging on the vehicle and throwing chairs through a window. Video shot by fighters onboard shows McGregor ordering an unidentified individual to get out of the van before being taken away by security, Helwani reported. UFC 223 headliner Khabib Nurmagomedov and his team were in the van in question. Nurmagomedov and his team were involved in a hotel altercation with McGregor’s longtime SBG Ireland teammate, Artem Lobov, on Tuesday. Video of McGregor’s scene at the Barclays Center can be seen below.

Conor McGregor to UFC: you's'll strip me of nothing...
Dana White said Wednesday that the UFC will be stripping Conor McGregor of the lightweight title. As expected, McGregor isn’t going to go accept that without a fight. “The Notorious” tweeted an ornery — and vulgar — response to White’s words early Thursday morning. “You’s’ll strip me of nothing you’s do nothing c*nts,” McGregor wrote. Khabib Nurmagomedov will fight Max Holloway in what the promotion is calling a UFC lightweight title fight in the main event of UFC 223 on Saturday in Brooklyn. The issue is that McGregor is still technically the lightweight champion and has been since November 2016. White has said that McGregor will cease to be champ as soon as the first punch is thrown this weekend at Barclays Center.

The duo are in Brooklyn preparing for their respective bouts at UFC 223 on Saturday, and they had to be separated several times after confronting each other at the host hotel.
