Jon Fitch Speaks His Mind: 'I'm Irritated' (Also goes off on Nick Diaz)
UFC welterweight Jon Fitch is normally pretty calm and doesn't talk a lot of trash, but he recently did an interview with MMACanada.net where he doesn't hold back at all. He discusses why he didn't get the fight with B.J. Penn at UFC 137, then goes on to trash Nick Diaz and explain that he's sick of being passed over. It's quite possibly the best Jon Fitch interview I've ever seen. He starts with the Penn situation: "Well, you know...BJ's healthy and I'm not. They wanted to get him active and be active, because he kinda has a lot of buzz on him right now, and they can't schedule me a fight, being injured. I know they won't sign me until I get cleared by the doctor, which is gonna be August 9th, I mean August 16th. So I'm kinda in no man's land. I tried to save the fight and I tried to wedge myself in there and make sure I didn't get skipped over, because I was injured and I didn't want to get forgotten about. You know, through twitter.

After Heartbreaking Tragedy, MMA Community Vows to Rally Around 'Dr. Alex'
In Colorado mixed martial arts circles, he's known simply as "Dr. Alex," a physician with a big love of the sport, and a big heart for the fighters who inhabit it. It's been a world he can't get enough of. At various times, he's been a cageside doctor, a judge, and a referee. And when that was not enough, Alex Constantinides, a man who spent five years in medical school, one year in internship, and two in residency, a man whose brain was his most important asset, decided to fight. Why would he? Was it for fame, money or glory? Of course not. He fought so he could gain a better understanding of what the athletes were going through. He wanted to feel what they felt, experience what they experienced, so he could better care for them. He did it for a reason that some feel is slowly fading from the medical profession: empathy.

Accident-insurance coverage saves UFC's Cub Swanson from $50,000 injury costs
With one look at Cub Swanson's medical records, you know the guy has suffered more than his fair share of bad luck. The latest? A sparring injury that resulted in orbital, nasal and cheek fractures, as well as a broken jaw. Seven weeks after the injury, the UFC fighter remains on an all-liquid diet. Still, there was a little good luck: As the UFC's first fighter to use the organization's recently enacted accident-insurance coverage, he saved himself a whopping $50,000 in out-of-pocket medical costs.

For Openly Gay Fighter Liz Carmouche, MMA Offered Open Arms and Bloody Noses
When Liz Carmouche first walked into the San Diego Combat Academy, she wasn't sure how the team would take having a lesbian training partner. MMA seemed like a man's world, and maybe not the most accepting one for women in general. For a homosexual woman like herself, Carmouche thought, the reception would only be colder. But after five years in the Marines under the Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy, Carmouche had decided that she was done lying about who she was.
