Dana White: UFC on FOX 1 inspired by boxing's once-glorious past
Longtime boxing fan Dana White always envisioned an event like UFC on FOX 1. The UFC's heavily anticipated and historic network-television debut is reminiscent of the UFC president's earliest boxing memories, when major fights were must-see events. "This is a throwback to the old days of boxing," he today said. UFC on FOX 1 takes place next Saturday, Nov. 12, at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. The main event (and only televised fight) features UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez (9-0 MMA, 7-0 UFC) vs. Junior Dos Santos (13-1 MMA, 7-0 UFC).. The event is a precursor to the big-bucks UFC-FOX deal, which doesn't kick off officially until 2012. So next week's event is a sort of a teaser event of what's to come. That's why only the title fight makes it to air (and why the entire undercard streams on FOX.com and Facebook).

Dana White: UFC Getting Closer to Producing Ultimate Fighter 'World Cup'
The UFC continues its expansion at a blistering pace, recently signing a major television deal with Brazil's Globo, and planning a February show in Japan, an event that will mark the first show there under Zuffa ownership. But according to UFC president Dana White, that's just the tip of the iceberg. On a Wednesday teleconference to promote the UFC on FOX premiere, White discussed some other worldwide plans, including an Ultimate Fighter "World Cup" that would take the winners from several international editions and match them against each other to produce one champion. The idea has been a long-held one for White, and though its production remains off in the future, steps towards making it a reality are in the here and now. A deal to produce the UFC's first international edition has been struck, and the show will soon begin taping in Brazil, likely in the spring of 2012.

Josh Koscheck Looking for Fight With Carlos Condit in February
Josh Koscheck has never been known as the quiet type, and it seems like every time there's an opening for a fight, he's there to tweet how he'll take it. He made that offer to Carlos Condit when Georges St. Pierre pulled out of UFC 137, but Condit chose to wait. And got burned. Now, Koscheck is doing his best to provoke Condit and his agent Malki Kawa into taking a bout with him. Dana White has already said Condit will compete on the February Super Bowl card, and it looks like Kos wants to as well. He made it clear via twitter, as usual: @JoshKoscheck Just thinking! That dude should of took thefight with me on a week notice bc if he HADa chance2make it aclose fight,It was then,NOW 0 chance

According to Anik, who will be part of next week's UFC on FOX 1 event, UFC officials told him his booth partner will be either a past or present UFC fighter.

Chael Sonnen is Sick of Anderson Silva’s Reluctance to Fight and Vitor Belfort’s Bankrupt Mouth Writing Checks
[yes another Chael interview...though finally its not solely on Anderson] ProMMANow caught up with Chael Sonnen over the weekend and they asked the number one UFC middleweight contender if he thinks the rumored bout with Anderson Silva will happen soon. As usual, Chael didn’t hold back especially when talking about Silva’s seeming unwillingness to fight him again and the recent callout he got from Vitor Belfort. “Listen, I’m gonna go fight whether it’s him or it’s someone else, I’m not gonna hold back. I fight them all. I am the middleweight champion and I take on all comers and he’s an impostor. The clear distinction between the tru champion and that bum is that. I’ll fight ‘em all. I don’t care what their name is, what their record is…big fight, little fight, this fight, that fight…I will fight. Period. Vitor Belfort calls me out, that’s no problem, Vitor,” Sonnen stated. “I will stomp you just as sure as I’ll do this interview today. You mean nothing to me, okay? You wanna fight me? Let’s fight. Got that, Vitor? You challenged me. I accept your challenge, stupid. Now what are you gonna do? Nothing, are you? You just said it ‘cuz you knew my plate was full. Wrong. I will stomp you.” He also touched on the close relationship he has with his mother. I wonder what she thinks about Chael’s “Gangster from America” routine and if she condones him spanking random men’s wives on the ass and telling them to go cook him a steak.

Matt Mitrione Wishes He Would Have Fought Kongo Like Diaz Fought Penn
“It sucked. It was boring. I want to put on exciting fights. As soon as I watched it I thought, ‘That was exactly how I should have fought Cheick.’ Exactly how Nick Diaz fought B.J. is how I should have fought Cheick. Nick was aggressive and constantly threw punches at B.J. even if B.J. didn’t want to commit… Both of our performances — I think it was just a dull fight. It was just a lot of chasing him down. It was a learning experience but it sucks at the same time. I’d rather get my ass kicked in dramatic fashion than lose with the crowd booing. I can tell you it won’t happen again. If I lose again it’s going to be because I get my ass kicked in an ugly, ugly way.” Meathead is fairly critical about himself and the fight, but at least is being honest. i hope to see him more aggressive next time out

Anderson Silva: Ed Soares needs a more professional attitude, 'will have to deal with backlash of what he did'
"Unfortunately, my manager is American, he speaks Portuguese, but he is American. But, I'm putting myself as a Brazilian.... Whether you are in the UFC or not, when I'm outside my country I'm going to represent my country well and I think everyone has to position himself in the right way. His position was not good, was not cool, as a manager he needed to have a more professional attitude. He was not professional and I don't know why... I think it was not cool. But everyone knows what's best, he is a grown man and he is going to deal with the backlash of what he did." Silva went on to to reveal that has no contract with Soares: "First thing is that nobody can talk for me except myself. Second is that I don't have a contract with anybody, except with Nine9 and my sponsors, so anything can happen." On Oct. 21, 2011, Silva responded on his Twitter account about the photo above, which was apparently taken at the Hilton Hotel in Houston, Texas, during the festivities of UFC 136. His reaction: "I do not like it at all this photo, I take to mean that only I can talk about my struggles, my plans and my career."

By the Numbers: UFC 137
Trademark aggression and crushing pace carried Nick Diaz, as he made a triumphant return to the Ultimate Fighting Championship at the expense of former two-division champion B.J. Penn. Diaz overwhelmed Penn with punches en route to a clear-cut unanimous decision in the UFC 137 headliner on Saturday at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, as he recorded his career-best 11th consecutive victory and, with it, secured a coveted title shot against reigning welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre. Beyond the outcome, rests the facts and figures. Here is a by-the-numbers look at UFC 137 “Penn vs. Diaz,” with statistics provided by FightMetric: 150: Total strikes by which Diaz outlanded Penn in their action-packed three-round encounter. The 28-year-old Cesar Gracie disciple connected on 125 punches in the second round alone. .500: Diaz’s winning percentage in fights that have gone the distance. The former Strikeforce champion started his career 1-5 in bouts involving the judges. Diaz has not lost a decision since bowing to Sean Sherk at UFC 59 in April 2006. 21: Appearances Penn has made inside the Octagon, good for fifth on the all-time list. The Hawaiian trails only Matt Hughes (25), Tito Ortiz (25), Randy Couture (24) and Chuck Liddell. Three of those men are in the UFC Hall of Fame and Ortiz figures to someday join them. 1: Victory for Penn outside of the lightweight division since 2005. 44: Significant strikes landed by French kickboxer Cheick Kongo in his unanimous decision victory over “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 10 alum Matt Mitrione in the co-main event. By comparison, Mitrione connected on only 21.

UFC 137 Spike Prelims Special Ties Second-Worst Rating Ever
Despite a solid two-fight card for Spike's UFC 137 prelims show, the ratings were not good. The show tied for the second-worst rating of the 24 episodes aired over the last two years, drawing just 1.1 million viewers and a 0.8 rating overall. It drew a 0.89 rating in males 18-49 and 0.85 rating in males 18-49. Spike isn't even trumpeting the usual spiel about it winning it's time slot in their main demographics. That cannot be seen as remotely good for anyone involved, and is likely an indicator of a bad buyrate for the UFC 137 pay-per-view. This also comes on the heels of the worst Spike prelims rating ever for their UFC 136 show, which drew an average of just one million viewers. Spike will air just three more prelims shows before the UFC's broadcast deal with Fox kicks in and the shows move over to FX in January 2012. The next episode is scheduled to air before UFC 139 pay-per-view on November 19th. The two scheduled fights see Ryan Bader facing Jason Brilz, and Tom Lawlor taking on Chris Weidman.

White says gay UFC fighters should come out
UFC president Dana White said last week he believes there are probably several gay fighters among the ranks of the more than 300 the company has under contract and added that he wishes at least one of them came out of the closet and identified himself. White strongly defended his human rights record against attacks from the Culinary Workers Union, which attempted to paint him as anti-gay. The culinary union has been engaged in a battle with White and the UFC for several years, largely because the casinos in Las Vegas owned by UFC co-owners Lorenzo and Frank Fertitta are non-union. The union, which so far has been successful in lobbying the New York legislature to block the UFC’s attempt to get mixed martial arts legalized in the state, has created websites and written letters to UFC advertisers, painting it as unfit for children and anti-gay. White said he is not anti-gay and said he regretted using a crude word to describe a homosexual in a 2009 rant against a female reporter who had angered him. “If you guys look at all of the things I’ve said over the last 10 years, some of it is stupid, some of it is whatever, but that’s the one that bothers me,” White said of the use of the slur in 2009. “It’s the only one that bothers me, the fact that these losers from the culinary union can go out and say I’m a homophobe and things like that. That’s the furthest thing from the truth.

Anderson Silva: "ill fight for another six or seven years"
VIA Bj Penn's twitter page: Direct quote: “I’ll fight for another six or seven years and then I’ll stop. I stopped to think about it and I’ll postpone my retirement for a little longer. Then I’ll think about TV. I guess it’s interesting,” if he can stay in his prime for that much longer, finger crossed, then we should be able to see more than enough of all the match-ups everyone is dying to see

Carano Not Fighting in 2011
There had been some speculation that Gina Carano, still arguably the most famous women's MMA fighter in the world, was targeting a return to action on Strikeforce's Dec. 17 card in San Diego. However, sources close to the event confirmed with MMAFighting.com that Carano will not be competing on the card. Carano announced her return to Strikeforce in February of this year, however, an undisclosed illness forced her to pull out of her June 18 fight against Sarah D'Alelio. As of right now, Strikeforce has no plans for her return to the cage.

Fox And DirecTV Reach An Agreement, UFC Not In Jeopardy
Last week I reported that DirecTV had sent a letter to the FCC in response to Fox's continual airing of misleading commercials. The complaint essentially was to let the FCC know that Fox is no longer fit to be a network and should not receive the same considerations as CBS/NBC/ABC. The Fox suite of channels including FX, Fuel, and Fox Soccer Channel were set to be pulled from the carrier today until a deal could be reached. Last night the two sides reached to an agreement and customers will not be losing their channels. "Fox Networks and DIRECTV have reached an agreement for DIRECTV to continue carrying all Fox Networks (including FX, National Geographic Channel, Nat Geo WILD, SPEED, FUEL TV, FOX Soccer, FOX Soccer Plus and FOX Deportes), Fox's regional sports networks, Fox Broadcasting (FOX), the FOX local stations, Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network," DirecTV expressed in a statement. "We both know the past ten days have been challenging, but we're pleased that both sides could eventually come together to ensure our viewers continue to enjoy Fox programming."
