UFC open to Erick Silva appeal; Dana White points to need for instant replay
Welterweight Erick Silva may not have left Saturday night's UFC 142 event as a winner, but he'll be paid like one. At the evening's post-event press conference at Rio de Janeiro's HSBC Arena, UFC president Dana White told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) Silva will receive his win bonus despite being saddled with a disqualification loss. "We're going to pay him like he won the fight," White told MMAjunkie.com. Silva (13-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) took on Carlo Prater (30-10-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) on the evening's main card and appeared to notch a 29-second TKO win after landing a powerful knee to the body and following up with punches on the floor. However, after referee Mario Yamasaki waved off the fight, he revealed he was ruling the contest a disqualification as Silva's blows were deemed to have illegally landed to the back of the head. While a referee could simply deduct a point for the infraction, Prater was in no shape to continue, forcing the DQ. White said he disagreed with Yamasaki's assessment of the fight-ending sequence, prompting him to award the win bonus.

Anthony Johnson released from UFC
Anthony Johnson's third weighcutting mistake will be his last in the UFC, at least for now. Following Saturday night's UFC 142 event at HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, UFC president Dana White terminated Johnson's contract. "This is his third time," White said of Johnson's failure to make weight for the third time in his octagon career. "Three strikes and you're gone." Johnson (10-4 MMA, 7-4 UFC), of course, missed weight for his co-feature fight with Vitor Belfort (21-9 MMA, 10-5 UFC). The UFC president said Johnson came within a pound-and-a-half of the 186-pound limit allowed for non-title middleweight fights but was forced by a doctor to rehydrate because the former welterweight contender "couldn't make it." "That was one of the most unprofessional things I've ever seen," White said. "The guy was at 170 pounds. He moved up to 185 pounds so this wouldn't happen anymore, and this is the worst weightcutting disaster he's ever had. He almost ruined the co-main event here in Brazil. I don't know what else to say about that one. I'm not happy about it."

WWE Pulls Plug On CM Punk Walking Out With Chael Sonnen At UFC On Fox 2
WWE Champion CM Punk will no longer walk out with Chael Sonnen for his fight with Mark Munoz at UFC On Fox 2. In early-January, news broke that longtime MMA fan Punk (Phil Brooks) would walk out with the former pro wrestling prospect and top middleweight contender Sonnen in Punk's hometown of Chicago, IL. Punk had previously received permission from WWE to skip a house show on Saturday, January 28 to be at the UFC event. From Ariel Helwani's piece on MMA Fighting: Punk confirmed with MMAFighting.com that WWE chairman Vince McMahon decided against allowing him to walk out to the cage with Sonnen later this month. MMA reporter FrontRowBrian first reported the news Friday afternoon.

UFC president confirms Sao Paulo as next stop on promotion's Brazilian tour
A long-rumored UFC event in the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo is a reality. UFC president Dana White told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) on Friday the promotion is currently searching for venues to host the event, which is targeted for an as-yet-undetermined date in June. "It looks like it's probably going to be a stadium show," he said. Weather considerations may play a big part in the timing of the event. With Brazil's seasons the exact opposite of those in the U.S., a June show falls between autumn and winter in the country. "We're just going to make sure it doesn't rain," White joked. "I hate doing outside [expletive]. I don't like doing outside weigh-ins, let alone outside fights."

UFC on FOX 3 targeted for May 5
RIO DE JANEIRO – The UFC's third network-televised event likely will take place on May 5. On Friday UFC president Dana White told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that's the date officials have targeted for UFC on FOX 3. f4wonline.com first reported the date. However, a host city, venue and potential fights haven't been determined for the card, which is the second of four that FOX has planned for 2012. "May 5 is the date we're holding for FOX," White told MMAjunkie.com. "It has been for a while." The UFC made its network-TV debut with UFC on FOX 1 in November. The abbreviated/teaser show featured just one televised fight – Junior Dos Santos' title-clinching knockout of then-heavyweight champ Cain Velasquez. However, later this month at UFC on FOX 2 in Chicago, FOX airs three main-card bouts, and FX carries the event's full preliminary card.

Anthony Johnson weighs 204.2 pounds, UFC 142 co-main event is on
RIO DE JANEIRO – Anthony Johnson made weight when it mattered most. After he came in heavy and weighed 197 pounds for a 185-pound bout with Vitor Belfort at Friday's official UFC 142 fighter weigh-ins, Johnson was told he could weigh no more than 205 pounds after rehydrating. After a UFC-mandated second weigh-in on event day, he today weighed 204.2 pounds. Therefore, his fight with Belfort is good to go for tonight's pay-per-view event, which takes place at HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro. However, Johnson (10-3 MMA, 7-3 UFC) still must surrender 20 percent of his purse as a fine, which will be issued to Belfort (20-9 MMA, 9-4 UFC).

Nate Marquardt, BAMMA Sever Ties; Former UFC Contender Now a Free Agent
Nate Marquardt's run in BAMMA has come to an end before it ever really started. Marquardt was scheduled to fight Yoshiyuki Yoshida in the main event of BAMMA 9 for the organization's welterweight title. This marks the second time BAMMA has delayed Marquardt's promotional debut, as he was originally scheduled to fight for BAMMA in December.

UFC on FX and Fuel non-title main events will only be three rounds in 2012
Hold your horses. Remember when every UFC show moving forward was supposed to feature a five round main event? That no longer appears to be the case. According to Matt Bishop of the Detroit News, unless a title is on the line, all UFC on FX and UFC on Fuel shows will feature three round main events. The five round non-title bouts will be reserved for pay-per-views and for the big network UFC on FOX shows. Fuel TV is planning six events in 2012 and considering that two UFC events are already scheduled for FX by March 3, it appears FX could be landing a similar amount of shows this year. Main Event fights affected so far: UFC on FX 1: Melvin Guillard vs. Jim Miller UFC on Fuel 1: Jake Ellenberger vs. Diego Sanchez UFC on FX 2: Martin Kampmann vs. Thiago Alves UFC on Fuel 2: Alexander Gustafsson vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira

Ed had a recent interview with MMA 24/7 radio and discussed his time on TUF. In his interview, Ed expressed his displeasure with being on Ken Shamrock's team saying although he and his coaches were nice, they were not good coaches and his team was often stood up by Shamrock. Ed once again said he would love a rematch against Alan Belcher since he thought he won that fight. He also would like another chance at Demian Maia and any other top 10 fighter in his class. Ed also answered several fan submitted questions on the show. Ed's interview starts at the 32 minute mark in the podcast.
