A fight that was supposed to happen a couple times already now is official to headline the UFC’s visit to Shanghai this fall. Former UFC middleweight champion and all-time great Anderson Silva (34-8 MMA, 17-4 UFC) will take on Kelvin Gastelum (14-3 MMA, 9-3 UFC) in the headliner of the UFC’s debut in mainland China, set to take place at Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai on Nov. 25. UFC officials confirmed the previously reported fight overnight.

Two championship belts will be on the line when the UFC makes its second visit this November to the famous Madison Square Garden in New York. The lineups for both DWCS 7 and 8 are set to close out the first season. Opponent switches are seldom “groovy,” but at least Lando Vannata has plenty of notice. Vannata was scheduled to meet fellow lightweight contender Abel Trujillo at UFC 216, scheduled for Oct. 7 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Monday, the Ultimate Fighting Championship announced that the Jackson-Wink MMA product would no longer be facing Trujillo, but would now be taking on “King” Bobby Green instead. The promotion did not give a reason for Trujillo's removal from the contest.

GoFundMe launched for UFC/WEC veteran Javier Vazquez after colon cancer diagnosis

Former UFC and WEC fighter Javier Vazquez, 40, is in need of financial support after being diagnosed with colon cancer. Vazquez (16-5 MMA, 1-0 UFC) last competed in MMA in June 2011, earning a unanimous-decision win over “The Ultimate Fighter 2” winner Joe Stevenson. The UFC, WEC, EliteXC and King of the Cage veteran recently underwent surgery to have a tumor removed and is now facing a regimen of chemotherapy. One of Vazquez’s, friends recently launched a GoFundMe page to help raise money for medical care, establishing a goal of $35,000.

Mark Hunt to headline UFC Fight Night in Sydney vs. Marcin Tybura

Mark Hunt’s career just keeps on trucking. Hunt, coming off a hard-fought win in his last fight, will return to face Marcin Tybura in the main event of the upcoming UFC Fight Night event in the Australian city of Sydney. Polish website Lowking.pl first reported the match, which MMAjunkie subsequently confirmed with multiple UFC officials. A formal announcement is expected early next week. The event, which takes place Nov. 19 at Qudos Bank Arena, marks the 11th time the UFC has headed to Australia and fourth to Sydney. Due to the time change, the card airs on Nov. 18 in the U.S. on FS1.
