George Sullivan fails drug test, facing second UFC anti-doping violation
(mmafighting.com)
George Sullivan’s toughest opponent over the last year has been USADA. The UFC welterweight failed a drug test and is facing a second UFC anti-doping policy violation, the promotion announced Thursday. Sullivan is the first athlete to be flagged by USADA twice since it became the UFC’s anti-doping partner in July 2015. The positive test stems from a sample collected Jan. 14. Sullivan, who is currently serving a one-year suspension by USADA, has been provisionally suspended on top of that.

It's pretty common knowledge at this point that making it into the UFC doesn't result in immediate riches and financial security. In fact, more and more stories continue to pour out featuring fighters struggling and going broke fighting for the organization. Here's the latest disheartening tale: #8 ranked bantamweight Michael McDonald can't even afford a camp right now, so he's stuck working a second job until he can save up enough to train.

Mike Goldberg opens up about ‘disappointing’ UFC departure: ‘I watched everything around me be shattered’
(mmafighting.com)
No one is more disappointed than Mike Goldberg about the way things ended between he and the UFC. The longtime play-by-play voice of the Octagon unceremoniously parted ways with the UFC last month after spending 20 years as a mainstay of the company’s broadcast booth — exiting the UFC without even a tribute from the promotion itself. On Monday, speaking publicly for the first time his departure, Goldberg said was stunned to learn of the UFC’s decision to not renew his contract at the beginning of December, and explained that he simply resolved to close out the final three shows of his UFC career with the same level of professionalism as everything that came before.

(mmajunkie.com)
The UFC Fight Night 105 lineup is finally filling out, and UFC officials have announced three new contests for the card, as well as a rebuilt contest. The additions include a women’s bantamweight matchup between Liz Carmouche (11-5 MMA, 3-3 UFC) and Sara McMann (10-3 MMA, 4-3 UFC), a middleweight contest with Ryan Janes (9-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) vs. Gerald Meerschaert (25-8 MMA, 1-0 UFC) and a featherweight bout with Sam Sicilia (15-7 MMA, 5-6 UFC) vs. Gavin Tucker (9-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC). UFC officials also confirmed a previously reported matchup of Johny Hendricks vs. Hector Lombard. Additionally, injuries forced a shuffle of planned lightweight bouts, and Paul Felder (12-3 MMA, 4-2 UFC) now meets Alessandro Ricci (10-4 MMA, 0-1 UFC) at the event. Felder had been expected to face Gilbert Burns at UFC 208, while Ricci was matched up with Alvaro Herrera at UFC Fight Night 105. UFC Fight Night 105 takes place Feb. 19 at Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. A newly announced headliner of Travis Browne vs. Derrick Lewis tops the bill for the FS1-broadcast event.

Tim Kennedy admits it was a ‘mistake’ to have Bjorn Rebney as MMAAA ‘public presence’
(mmafighting.com)
One of the biggest news items taken from the launch of the MMA Athletes Association (MMAAA) in November was the involvement of Bjorn Rebney. The MMAAA announcement conference call was the first time Rebney had spoken publicly for more than two years, after he was ousted as the president of Bellator MMA, the promotion he founded, in favor of Scott Coker. A number of fighters and managers who worked with Rebney in his role as a promoter took offense to him being involved actively in a fighter association. Some, who said his record was less than stellar as a fighter advocate in the past, said it would not work with the MMAAA because of Rebney. The whole controversy was a bit of a distraction for the positive thing the MMAAA wanted to do — organize fighters into getting more equal pay and treatment from the UFC. Tim Kennedy, the president of the MMAAA, acknowledges now that it wasn’t a good idea to have Rebney on the conference call and in the photo with the fighters on the MMAAA board.
