PRIDE Fighting Decade: The First 10 Years’ to air on PPV
link
On April 28, “PRIDE Fighting Decade: The First 10 Years” will air on Pay-Per-View (PPV).
Of course, the Ferttitta brothers — who are majority owners of the UFC — recently purchased the Japanese mixed martial arts promotion.
I figure this special looks like a solid piece for UFC fans to get up to speed on what makes the acquisition of PRIDE such a huge deal. And the highlights appear to be killer.

link
“I saw what he did and don’t worry, it’s in my mind. I can’t wait to have a chance to fight him. When I knocked him out, I didn’t laugh at him and make fun of the situation.”
– On MMAWeekly.com former UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre addresses the reaction from Matt Hughes in the stands at UFC 69 after Matt Serra defeated St. Pierre for the 170-pound title.

Tito Sings to Jenna
link
Tito Ortiz was in Los Angeles on Monday to celebrate the birthday of his girlfriend Jenna Jameson at Forty Deuce. Paris Hilton was also on hand for the affair in which Ortiz got on stage and sang Happy Birthday to his girlfriend off-key and ended it with the always classic "and many more on Channel 4" routine
anyone else tired of hearing about tito v. the pronstar. and apparently he is kicking it w/ britaney spears too. lol
Lindland Hopes to Out-Hustle Fedor
link
“I’m just trying to build up as much as I can," Lindland tells Bodog Sports. "I’m not going to stress on getting too heavy. It’s not going to be the key to this fight. I think I need to out move and out hustle him and come in better shape."
Joe Rogan: UFC Will Be More Popular Than NFL
link
Joe Rogan tells the New York Post that the UFC has already become more popular than boxing, and eventually it will surpass football and soccer:
"It's already eclipsed boxing in terms of pay-per-view dollars. The real question is can it eclipse football!? Can it eclipse soccer? I think the answer to that is yes. It's a more exciting sport."
i think it has a long way to go to surpass football.
Diego Sanchez Still Undefeated?
link
It appears that Diego Sanchez isn’t willing to own up to his recent loss to Josh Koscheck at UFC 69. An attentive MMA HQ reader alerted me to the fact that Diego recently updated his myspace.com page. In the “about me” section Diego has the following to say:
I AM A FIGHTER FOR UFC WITH A RECORD OF 20-0
Really, Diego?? 20-0?? Thats funny, because the rest of us thought that once you lose a fight your record would have fallen to 19-1 instead of 20-0. But then again, we all could be mistaken

TUF 5 TIES SERIES LOW WITH PREMIERE RATING
link
The season premiere of The Ultimate Fighter 5, which aired on Spike TV on April 5th, drew an overall rating of 1.4. This puts the TUF 5 premiere in a tie with the premiere of the very first season of The Ultimate Fighter for the lowest-rated premiere episode in series history, as the TUF 1 premiere also drew a 1.4 overall rating.
UFC in… Belfast?
link
Well the reasons for UFC 72 to be in Belfast are there, but you can bet the security forces will be in place too. Lots of Northern Irlanders drinking and watching combat is a recipe for a rough night if you’re on duty. But it’s not likely to be anything they haven’t seen at a football match.
In any case the rumored date is June 16 with the possible return of the popular Brandon Vera, who’s been under the radar for some time while contract and managerial details were settled.
Historic First MMA Event Scheduled for Washington DC
link
It was only a matter of time! While states like Nevada and California have long seen mixed martial arts as a valid offering and a way to earn income, there are still notable holdouts in major states’ acceptance of the sport. New York has yet to give the green light to MMA, though it’s expected to soon, as Washington DC has recently.
To wit, the first ever mixed martial event in Washington DC will be held May 12th at the DC Armory, after the DC Boxing & Wrestling Commission adopted the unified rules for MMA earlier this year. The event will offer fighters from Chute Boxe, American Top Team, and others, including fighters from local stand out BJJ organizations like Team Balance’s Tim Carpenter and Yamasaki’s Ron Foster.
Art of War Card & Ring of Fire 29 Card
link
In a press release sent out by the Art of War promotion today, the organization announced some of the upcoming line-up for their May 11th card, to take place in Austin, Texas, at the Austin Convention Center. Headlining the event will be a heavyweight match-up between Wes Sims (18-8-1) and Chris Guillen (8-6). The Gracie Fighting Championship is also scheduled to have Sims compete one week later at their “Evolution” event, on May 19th against Jeff Monson. According to Sims, whom FCF contacted this afternoon, both the GFC and Art of War are aware that he is scheduled to fight twice in 8 days.
UFC Quick Quote: Serra doesn’t like two Miletich boys
link
“Matt Hughes is an arrogant asshole, jerkoff and bully. He wouldn’t pull the same shit with me that he did to Georges (St. Pierre) on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) because he knows I’d tell him to go **** himself.”
– UFC Welterweight Champion Matt Serra had some choice words on BubbaTheLoveSponge.com for Matt Hughes today, who will most likely be his first title defense later this year, according to recent statements from UFC President Dana White. He also called Hughes’ training partner, Tim Sylvia, an ogre who thinks he is a big shot. In addition, Serra ripped on Sylvia for his appearance on Blind Date a few years ago.
Uncertain futures for PRIDE fighters
link
Nikkan Sports has a headline grabber today, claiming that Hidehiko Yoshida will fight at 205 pounds in the future (for a run at the UFC Light Heavyweight division). The article claims that Yoshida’s 5/20 Saitama Super Arena fight will be preparation for him fighting in UFC later this Summer.
Daily Sports has an article claiming that Josh Barnett may work for the IGF 6/29 Ryogoku debut show. From what I have been told directly, Barnett’s status right now as a fighter is in limbo. He is waiting for any and all offers. He has not been contacted by Zuffa in relation to the ‘new’ PRIDE.
