UFC 'Bad Boy' Recites Tale of Drug Use
Ultimate Fighting Championship notable Tito Ortiz, who recited his own hard luck story, gave drug court graduates a bit of advice at the annual graduation dinner Friday night: "I look in the mirror before I go to bed at night, and I respect myself, and I know each one of you can do the same."

Who Is The Casual American MMA Fan?
A comment from 45 Huddle on the FightOpinion.com comments led a lot of the MMA-blogging community into a discussion on the differences between the internet MMA media and the casual fan. Another key quote here:

Ortiz-Evans 2 Now Likely For UFC 78
The much-anticipated Tito Ortiz vs. Rashad Evans rematch now appears set to happen at UFC 78 on November 17 in Newark, NJ. Ortiz and Evans first met at UFC 73: “Stacked” on July 7, fighting to a draw after Ortiz was docked 1 point for grabbing the fence. I was hoping it would've been a little sooner as originally planned, but at least it's going to happen in the not-so-distant future. Hopefully the ending won't be as controversial as the first time.

IFL Releases Anacondas Coach
Shawn Tompkins has been released from his duties as the head coach of the IFL' Los Angeles Anacondas. Kurt Otto, the co-founder and commissioner of the International Fight League, confirmed to MMAWeekly on Wednesday evening that he made the decision to release Tompkins. Tompkins took over the Anacondas as the handpicked successor to original head coach Bas Rutten earlier this year in March. Personally I'm not too familiar with how the IFL runs their teams, so this is a rather interesting item to me. I can understand why the decision was made but normally I would expect the coach or head of the team to make such a decision.

WEC Fighter Fails Post-Fight Drug Test
Mixed martial artist Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone failed his post-fight drug test at last week's WEC 30 event, according to the NSAC. Cerrone tested positive for Hydrochlorothiazide, a diuretic that can be used by athletes to assist in weight-cutting by impeding the kidney's water-retaining capabilities. It can also be used to treat medical conditions such as high blood pressure and congestive heart failure. Looking at the picture of him in the article, he does look like he had to cut a lot of weight to get down to 155 for the fight, which is probably why he took the banned substance. His left abdominal area just looks too unnatural compared to the rest of his midsection.

Friends of MMA, unite against that awful stench
The UFC is going mainstream, which is what it always wanted, but I'm starting to think the Ultimate Fighting Championship was better off underground. Where nobody could smell its stench.

Forrest Griffin and The Fear That Makes You Fearless
The performances have already spoken volumes. Whether fighting UFC Hall of Famer Dan Severn in his first professional bout, fighting in South Africa and Brazil with a dislocated shoulder and a broken arm, respectively, or going 15 torrid minutes with the likes of Tito Ortiz and Stephan Bonnar (twice), Forrest Griffin has little to prove when it comes to courage.

Fedor Online Q&A...Responds To Dana's Claim That UFC Fighters Are Better
Here's an old online question and answer session that Fedor had in April. Even though it's a bit old, it hasn't been posted, and it's a really indepth q and a. He answers a lot of questions, talks about Randy Couture, Gonzaga's KO of CroCop, and also responds to Dana White's ridiculous claim that PRIDE fighters are "inferior" to UFC fighters because apparently they haven't performed well in the cage (I'm guessing that means CroCop), although two belt holders right now are former PRIDE fighters that could never gain the strap there. LOL. Anyways, it's a great read, it gives you a lot of insight on Fedor as a man, his training habits, what he thinks of a lot of fighters...and a lot more. Great read.

Local entrepreneurs Are Cashing In On The Ultimate Fighting Phenomenon.
The first thing you hear is the sound of human flesh being squarely punched and kicked, like thick slabs of raw steak hitting wet concrete. The room smells of sweat and is humming with activity. Grunting and heavy breathing come from fighters of different ages who are training in a variety of styles.

Mainstream MMA Media Is Disappointing
This may be a small rant, but it will definitely include some fact checking on my part. Recently, the mainstream media outlets have begun to sink their teeth into the sport of MMA

Bisping-Hamill Overreation
Is there really a judging credibility issue with the UFC or is the media overplaying it’s hand on what was simply a tight fight?

Blowback at Sports Illustrated.
So in suggesting in my last column that Pride had been overrated compared to UFC, I learned an important lesson: some SI.com readers swear more than Dana White. Even one of my friends piled it on. But really, it was great to have the debate explode in my inbox. Some of the letter writers made excellent points, like this one:

Mark Cuban Sees Bright Future For MMA
Mark Cuban, owner of the NBA's Dallas Mavericks, is prepared to throw his hat into the MMA ring. Along with business partner Guy Mezger, he's hoping to pool several regional MMA organizations together and have them promote shows that can air on the HDNet Friday Night Fights series. Cuban made big waves last week when he joined in the pursuit of free agent Heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko. Obviously if he's able to get Fedor, and it's possible with the fortune he's amassed, it not only would give his plans instant credibility but could quickly establish him as a legitimate competitor to UFC and IFL. Not to mention a Cuban-Dana White war of words would be very entertaining given Cuban's less-than-cordial relationship with NBA Commissioner David Stern.
