UFC President Dana White’s plan is in motion.

The promotion today announced flyweight champion Henry Cejudo (14-2 MMA, 8-2 UFC) will take on bantamweight No. 1 contender Marlon Moraes (22-5 MMA, 4-1 UFC) for the vacant 135-pound title at UFC 238.

UFC 238 takes place June 8 at United Center in Chicago. The event’s main card airs live on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN+ and early prelims on UFC Fight Pass.

As much as I’d love to see the flyweight division move along and conduct business as usual I do think this is the right fight to make for the vacant belt. Marlon is as legit as a number one contender as I’ve seen since Ortega fought Halloway and Henry did just smoke TJ. It’s the perfect fight to make especially since Cruz is hurt. Otherwise I wouldn’t have minded Cruz vs Marlon and Cejudo vs Joe B.

But I’ll be honest Cruz hasn’t been active but I still think he would be a better option than Assuancio, Munhoz or Yan.

He beat TJ once coming off a long layoff. Garbrandt was just an awful style matchup for him. Cody has the fastest hands in the division and he was able to counter Cruz and beat him to the punch in every exchange and Cruz doesn't hit hard enough to finish Cody the way the rest of the top 10 can. I don't think Marlon, cejudo or TJ give Cruz as hard of a time as Cody did. He will be back for at least one more big fight.

Sure he's always hurt but when he steps in the cage the guy rarely loses and has one of the best resumes in the history of the sport.

It's not that I've moved past him, I have just removed him from conversation until he announces he's healthy and ready to fight. He is still extremely talented, just think his body is tired from everything at this point in his career. I still believe he can win a title.
