UFC 227 is on the cusp of becoming a summer blockbuster, and Dana White is hoping for his “perfect world” scenario for the August event in Los Angeles.

The UFC president today revealed a lightweight fight between former UFC middleweight and welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre (26-2 MMA, 20-2 UFC) and Nate Diaz (19-11 MMA, 14-9 UFC) is in the works for UFC 227. The matchup was reported by MMA journalist Mike Russell over the weekend, but TSN reports no bout agreements have been signed.

That’s the fight White wants next for St-Pierre and Diaz, though, he said on the “UFC Unfiltered” podcast. And the news didn’t stop there.

White also revealed UFC 227 could land a light heavyweight bout between Alexander Gustafsson (18-4 MMA, 10-4 UFC) and former 185-pound champ Luke Rockhold (16-4 MMA, 6-3 UFC), though no interim belt would be on the line as rumored.

I guess Nate is getting a big fight he wanted. Not sure I understand this fight. I believe GSP will maul Nate, but who knows.

GSP at Lightweight? I think not.

Why have Conor vs Nate at 170 but GSP vs Nate at 155?

The only thing I can see that makes sense, is that this is a test fight to see if GSP can make 155#s. If he can make the weight and look good, then GSP fights Conor for the biggest PPV off all time - all of Ireland and Canada will be required by law to watch the fight. They want to make sure he can make the weight prior to investing all the money to promote the GSP/Conor fight.

The only thing I can see that makes sense, is that this is a test fight to see if GSP can make 155#s. If he can make the weight and look good, then GSP fights either Khabib for the belt or Conor for the big pay day. GSP vs. Conor would be the biggest PPV off all time - all of Ireland and Canada will be required by law to watch the fight. GSP vs Khabib would do big numbers, but more importantly it would be a huge legacy fight for GSP if he were to win - three weight class world champ. They want to make sure he can make the weight prior to investing all the money to promote either of the big fights.

These 2 and Conor are all about the money these days. I’d be surprised if this isn’t at WW. However, the winner must cut to LW afterwards to get Conor for the big bucks.

Conor facing the winner of this delays him getting stomped by Khabib, which is best for business.

GSP vs Nate Diaz
Gustafsson vs Rockhold
TJ vs Cody
Zabit vs Yair Rodriquez

That would be an amazing card if this all happens as planned.

I dunno anymore. This fight does nothing for me. Yet it's going to sell really well. I feel out of place with today's UFC.

How is this the Legacy fight GSP was looking for? I'd rather see him get Khabib. Conor and Tony are out for the foreseeable future, Alvarez and Dustin have unfinished business, Kevin Lee just missed weight so they can tie him up with Nate...who hasn't won a LW fight in years anyways. Plus shut talk and build up would be epic!

I agree I don't see the hype behind GSP going from 185 to 155 unless he's testing the waters for Conor.

And Yair is backing out of the Zabit fight. He doesn't seem interested in getting finished.

Zabit asked for the fight and waited hours for Yair's team after a press conference and went to Twitter and RP Yair's Tweet to sum it up Yair isn't interested. Nobody wants Zabit. Just give him The Korean Zombie, Superboy, Fili or Swanson. So he can get a quality win and crack that top 10 already.

Yeah, this fight itself isn't good and definitely is not a legacy fight. I see a pretty easy fight for GSP. The big test is if he can make weight and perform. The way I see it, its a way for the UFC (and fighters) to make a bunch of money on a test run while hedging their bets on GSP making weight.

Nate vs Kevin Lee doesn't make sense because Nate's price tag is way too high.

I'll believe when I see it. Makes all the sense in the world for Nate, not for GSP. Nate hasn't done much in the last few years as far as win column goes outside of Conor. I am assured that GSP cannot make that weight. Also, GSP's team denies the contact from Dana. So either GSP is in preliminary talks without notifying his camp OR Dana is stirring the pot to show the appeal of the fight and provide a convincing argument as to why the contract should get signed.
