Once Johny Hendricks was the UFC welterweight champion of the world. However, he lost his belt to Robbie Lawler via Split Decision on December 6, 2014 and is now 2-6 his last 8. He missed the welterweight limit twice in a row and moved up to middleweight, scoring an impressive KO over Hector Lombard. However, he missed the middleweight cut off and was TKOed by Tim Boetsch in Round 2. And then he was TKOed by Paulo Costa in Round 2. And his UFC contract has expired.

Johnny wants more money and the UFC is willing to keep him. I say it's a bad move for the UFC. Let him go and let him sign with Bellator or WSOF (or whatever they're calling it now). I think he'd be a good fight in Russia or OneFC. He is over the hill and no longer the fighter he once was. He is undisciplined in making weight over and over again, even when he goes up 15lbs. Just cut your losses UFC. Let him go.

I think the UFC is being sympathetic here. It's as difficult for them to cut Johny as it is for him to cut weight

Guy deserves this as his eating has ruined his career. Id like to see Askren vs Hendricks in Belator.

I could see it as a defensive move on the UFC's part to keep a big name away from Bellator. I can't see him commanding big money based on his recent run. In my mind the value is defense keeping him out of Bellator and name recognition as a former champ.

Shocked they wanna keep him.

His record since champ has been one of the biggest freefalls in the ufc. Pettis is right up there as well

Bellator is a non factor and he has nothing left to contribute. Sadly.

I was unaware anyone was interested in signing him, let alone the UFC.

Also, what dipshit wrote this article? Hendricks beat Lombard by decision, not "an impressive ko". How can that be your job and you can't manage 5 seconds of Google? He hasn't koed anyone since 2012...

Kirik, one of the two owners of the site wrote the article. Their content has become increasingly inaccurate. Something that can easily be solved with 5 seconds of an internet search, you’re right. Maybe he was thinking of Hendo?
