UFC officials today announced a shuffle to UFC 214’s fight card that will pair Sage Northcutt against veteran John Makdessi in a lightweight bout.

Northcutt (8-2 MMA, 3-2 UFC) previously was scheduled to face Claudio Puelles (7-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC), who suffered an injury and was forced to withdraw from the event, which takes place July 29 at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. The bout order for UFC 214 has not been set, but main card fights air live on pay-per-view following prelims on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass.

I'm shocked the UFC went from having Sage fight a guy that's 0-1 in the UFC to a guy with like 13 UFC bouts.

I think Sage is going to get wrecked.

At first I thought this would be a loss for Sage and maybe the end of his tenure but now I'm starting to think Sage is better off fighting anyone who WONT shoot in on him since he can't stop takedowns and when have we ever seen John wrestle? Maybe he's good enough on the feet to beat up John and he only loses too anyone at all who will grapple him but that's not John. Favorable matchup maybe

This is actually a winnable fight for Sage. Makdessi likes to stand and trade which is good for Northcutt.

I keep thinking that Makdessi might have been one of the guys getting too rough with Sage at Tristar; the time when his dad pulled him out of the camp.

Both fighters have weak ass gas tanks but Makdessi can take a beating and keeps fighting hard and coming at you anyhow....tired and hurt. Makdessi obviously has the experience advantage to boot. I don't know how it's going to play out though. It could go several different ways. Big test for Sage but he doesn't lose much if he loses this one. It's a "stock" issue for Makdessi. If he loses to Sage his stock plummets a little further. I think the ball is in Makdessi's court in this one. With the right game plan he should be able to win this one. We'll see.
