After a slow start, Max Holloway took over against Jose Aldo and unified the UFC featherweight title.
Holloway (18-3 MMA, 14-3 UFC), who came in as the interim champ, seized the undisputed belt after battering Aldo (27-2 MMA, 9-1 UFC) until the referee was forced to step in at the 4:13 mark of the third round.
The title fight headlined today’s UFC 212 event at Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro. It aired on pay-per-view following prelims on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass.

Maybe now people will give Holloway the respect he deserves, but I doubt it. Kid is really good, but most casuals never heard of him.

Assuncao doesn't get to fight in Brazil anymore.
Three close decisions in the country and they all go his way, and pretty much all of MMA media scored it 2-1 at best. For this one, Moraes outlanded Assuncao 58-13, yet some knucklehead scored all three rounds for Assuncao. I can somewhat understand 2-1, but really? 3-0? Get that shit out of here.

Agreed. Tired of seeing him win decisions he shouldn't.

He lost that fight 100%.....I woulda been ok with a Split, but there is no way Assuncao won and 30-27......lmfao.
Go to mmadecisions.com 16 media members that cover the sport for a living scored it for Moraes, only 1 scored it for Assuncao and something like 80+% of the world thought Moraes won too.
Judging sucks.

My biggest issue is the stupid fucking rules man.....
Imo the UFC should only be holding events un places that accepted new rules.
Every other event is judged different and its dumb, boycott the idiot commissions that dont adopt new rules already.
I picked assuncao but he definitely lost he knows it,overall good night of fights except the spicely fight where they sat in 50/50 lol.
Halloway is the legit champ and aldo seems to be getting caught on to like anderson had happen.People know how to beat aldo now ...hes gonna have to evolve to keep up.

If you are on top long enough people will find a a way to beat you, not saying its impossible for Aldo to come back and rectify his two recent losses. I do question why he wasnt throwing them vicious leg kicks, which I thought would be his key to victory, being that Holloway doesn't check a lot of kicks. He is among the guys that appear smaller and lesser since the IV ban and USADA.

What's wrong with 50/50 ? They where both attacking each other's ankles and at the same time battling for top position.

Gotta disagree with you on that one, I like leg lock battles. I thought it was an interesting ground battle.

Yeah same it's good because you pretty much never see that in MMA. Both guys were defending well

They were both defending very well and evenly matched in that position just because there was no submission doesn't make it less interesting to me, it was a good battle and exchange. It's not like they were only throwing punches either man. Both throwing strikes from 50/50, battling for top position and going for ankle locks, I thought it was entertaining and rarely seen position in MMA
