“Big Country” is off to Bellator.

Roy Nelson (22-14) has signed an exclusive, multi-fight contract with Bellator MMA, MMA Fighting has confirmed with multiple sources. The promotion is expected to officially announce the signing in the coming days.

Not really surprised by this one, I figure we will be seeing more of this in the near future.

Country while being very skilled on the ground, has been a 1 trick pony for quite some time. Not shocked by this, he can be sponsored by burger king now. He's 3-7 in his last ten, that doesn't spell elite to me.

The UFC should have kept him bad move by them in my opinion. Everyone wants to see a big fat guy KO people. Who cares about records he brings viewers

He ran his course in the UFC.

I think Mr. I don't finish fights anymore Kongo would win by Decision.

Fights against Justin Wren, Chase Gormley would be more up his alley.

Maybe Big Country vs Big Rampage. I'd watch, i wouldn't get excited about it though.

I don't know anyone who specifically tunes in to see Roy Nelson.

He's 40 years old now, no longer anywhere near UFC title contention and he commands a pretty hefty salary.

I think its a pretty good move for Bellator. I bet they got him on the cheap since I doubt the UFC even made him an offer. He provides a little bit of name value to their top heavyweights, he gets to make a little more money before he retires and he has a chance of remaining relevant in Bellators HW division instead of being a gatekeeper in the UFC.

He will bring in viewers and put on some good brawls that fans will apreciate.

Personally i'd like kharitonov vs big country thatd be a fun fight. But he also provides a good name for some of the up and comers to test against.

Hes not prime,he won't be a champion but coker isn't signing him with those intentions. He's here to bring casuals and put on entertaining fights......he has more chance of staying relevant because his name value is more important in Bellator but he won't see many gimme fights.

As many of the UFC acquisitioned fighters have found out.....Bellator isn't the default #2 in the world anymore its earned its place and fighting their isn't a walk in the park.

Side note i find it funny Volkov washed out of Bellator then made his way to the ufc via M-1 global only to beat up big country on his final fight of his ufc contract Only to see big country join bellator lol......mma is funny.

Im still getting reports of a future HW gp for the title so i could see him possibly in the mix of that goes down otherwise i stick with my original statement that he won't be champ.

I've never heard a casual can fan of the sport even mention any organization besides the UFC...they call them the B leagues or the regional circuit. Either way I still get a couple more years of watching Roy so I'm good with the move. This Bellator PPV will provide good data on how the casuals view Bellator. Anything over 200K buys should be seen as a real victory for Bellator.

I know quite a few casuals mention Bellator as a legit organization but ive also had viewing partys for every fightcard so people who hang out have a couple orgs to compare to.

Obviously the UFC is still thought of as the top org and rightfully so but bellator is hands down #2.

You got WSOF the suppsed #3 in the usa putting on a show in NYC featuring all title fights......they gave away 2/3rds of the tickets for free and did terrible ratings.

Everyone i have over on a regular basis view ufc and bellator as the top 2 orgs and they have all watched RIZIN,WSOF,KSW,M-1,and some BAMMA cards to compare with.

I agree the ppv will be a big indicator of how much the brand has grown....anything over the previous ppvs numbers would be positive, anything over 200,000 would be a real win.

Looks like the UFC and Bellator are gonna go head to head, this is great for the fans imo.
