I doubt GSP could make LW if he tried.

Weight cutting gets harder as you get older and he was already walking around at closer to 205 than 155.

After a few years out of the sport making WW might even be a challenge.

I don't see him fairing well as a MW though. Not with the new breed of fighters and with his layoff.

For the sake of his legacy he probably should have stayed retired.

GPS may very well lose or he is going to look phenomenal... either way I'm glad he's back. It takes balls to come back after 3 years and to be honest I don't think he could ruin his legacy. Also a true hero doesn't compete because of a legacy, they compete for the feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction they get from trying to better themselves. I hope he wins the title and then relinquishes it to fight up and down between mw and ww against fighters like Lawler, Spider, Woodley, Maia, Masvidal, Conor to name a few. There are some great match ups for GSP if he doesn't get tied down holding a title.

A very interesting Article making the argument that this fight is worth it.

I love me some GSP but I can't help but to feel kind of sorry for Yoel Romero. What's the guy have to do to get a title shot?

Sell PPV's

that's was pisses me off, fighters should get title shots based on their ranking and wining streaks and dominance and talent, not based on ppvs, say yoel knockouts 20 people in a row but still doesent have high ppv numbers and some high ppv seller comes in and gets a title shot after losing 10 fights in a row, this sport is becoming a joke

They're also unknowingly clearing the division for the next title shot. I don't agree with GSP getting an immediate shot, but what're you gonna do?

Bisping --> GSP
Yoel --> Jacare (makes a clear #1 contender)
Weidman --> Moose Saucey (winner is 1 more fight away from shot)

yoel and jacare fought already and yoel won but it was a debatable decision

Loses his first 3 fights at MW...because the top 10 is full of killers...and he'll get killed, retires again.

GSP leaves the UFC suddenly for 3 years and now he decides he wants to fight again and gets an immediate title shot? Only in the UFC!

Yoel got screwed big time here. Feel bad for the guy.

Yoel should not be in the position he is in. He should have been DQ'd against Kennedy and Jacare got fucked by the judges. Yet, that's not how history was written.

I like it. A guy who hasn't fought in 3.5 years and has never fought at mw will now fight for the mw title.
I'm going to watch the shit out of this...On an illegal site the following morning.

There's a video out there showing GSP stepping back into the cage ahead of 209. He looks good. Fluid movement. I don't think he's lost much. I may just be taking GSP in this one. Also in Embedded ep. 5 he was so excited to get his gloves fitted. He looked like a kid in a candy shop. I believe GSP needed the time away. He was getting burnt out. I believe he's reinvented himself.
