I haven't posted in a while, and I hope everyone's doing alright.

I've noticed over the past few years the numbers here on MMA Playground have gone down. When I say that I mean in terms of posts, people participating in the Pick'em Leagues, etc. Below I did a little calculation to see the percentage (%) decrease in Pick'em users from #20 to this current season, #29 --- I do know the season is not over yet.

Season 20: 1,661
Season 21: 1,366 (lost 295 people from #20, a decrease of 17.76%)
Season 22: 1,333 (lost 33 people from #21, a decrease of 2.42%)
Season 23: 1,193 (lost 140 people from #22, a decrease of 10.50%)
Season 24: 1,122 (lost 71 people from #23, a decrease of 5.95%)
Season 25: 1,032 (lost 90 people from #24, a decrease of 8.02%)
Season 26: 1,016 (lost 16 people from #25, a decrease of 1.55%)
Season 27: 922 (lost 94 people from #26, a decrease of 9.25%)
Season 28: 875 (lost 47 people from #27, a decrease of 5.10%)
Season 29: 770 (lost 105 people from #28, a decrease of 12.00%)

I honestly would love to see more people use MMA Playground. It's unfortunate to see how many people have just disappeared.

My question is for everyone who still uses MMA Playground: where has everyone gone and (more importantly) what can we do to get people back? I would love to see us thrive again in numbers, get back 1,000+ people so the competition gets fierce at the top. Reach out more w/ media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), share with friends and invite more people? Any other ideas? I miss the old days!

Damn, more than half of the people left the site from season 20 to now and the number's still continuing to decrees.

Social media is probably the best way to get it out there. Get new members since most of the old ones are probably not coming back.

Also, UFC Pick'ems takes away from this site as well...not sure what other sites there are for fantasy mma. Have to really get it out there on social media and make it sound better than UFC Pick'ems to draw more people in. People aren't going to come here if they don't know about it.

Lastly, maybe look at what has made people leave over the years and try and fix those things from chasing away more people.

People who left because of drama really aren't worth having around anyways.
There are a lot of sites doing pick em and such so the competition is stiff. Those who have a network could advertise which would bring in more members for sure.

My thoughts have been that the camps have always divided the forums. I used to always post because that was what I had time for, and then camp leaders jump all over you, if you post and don't participate in camp discussions. When I first got here I believe their used to be actual prizes, I think that needs to be brought back, maybe a premium membership to be eligible for prizes or something like that, there isnt any real incentive with 40 events every year, to the casual fan.

The PG sort of mirrors my group of friends. A few years back my basement had a dozen dudes every other weekend cheering for The Spider, Rousey & GSP. These days it's 2 to 3 dudes asking me who Amanda Nunes is. & that's on a good weekend! McGregor vs Alvarez brought 7 dudes over to watch & it felt like the good old days again but last weekend I couldn't find one person interested in watching Pena vs Valentina.. the lack of star power & fair weather fans is contributing to the PGs mass exodus imho. sad stuff

1) Have tangible prizes. Doesn't have to be money.

2) Move B-level UFC/FS1 cards to BOTR. Even the most hardcore fans are getting burnt out trying to keep up.

3) Implement live scoring updates, similar to other fantasy sports games. I'm more invested when I can see my score go up while having a good night against my opponents.

4) Allow members to have more than one account. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

How about the most winning camp of the year for all weight classes gets all their members a free trip to Las Vegas for International Fight Week (4th of July weekend). Flight/hotel covered for 4 or 5 nights and tickets to the UFC events that week.

Jk, but different prize would be neat.

Everything goes through social media now a days. Does this site even have different social media accounts? A big push with those will really help, besides making some adjustments to this site. Whoever runs the social media accounts will have to put in a lot of effort in getting this site out there. Going to fighters, journalists, anything mma related or involved in mma, and making this site known to them and try to get them to push it out to their followers.

Changes need to happen or the only thing that'll change is more members leaving.

Now give me some more likes god dammit!

Agree with the first 3. There is just too many events, and you just get burnt out doing research etc for every single new/crappy fighter that comes along

I can't do anything about 1. I think its a chicken and egg situation. You need more members to afford prizes and you might need prizes to attract new members.

As far as #2 goes I'll raise the idea with DotheMMAth and the other mods, because this would make BoTR cards stronger while also making the main league a little less taxing for picks.

#3 might also be possible. I seem to recall the stats updating as we went for a single event in the past. It was probably a product of someone running the stats after each fight. It would be a pain for whatever mod is running the event, but as long as DTM says it wont break the site I'll test it out.

#4 is probably also a no go. We no longer ban members for multiple accounts but we do make them give up one if its determined someone has more than 1. I don't see any benefit to allowing multiple accounts.

I think it's the burnout and lack of appeal to more casual fans.

The weekly UFC cards are very weak and only hardcores will be interested in picking every fight on every card. It's exhausting and even hardcore members are feeling the burnout and leaving.

It's become a lot like a chore rather than an enjoyable hobby to participate and it's not the Playground's fault, it's the onslaught of weak UFC bills.

I like Corleone's idea:

I looked on Facebook and there was only two MMA playground pages might be an idea. Not sure how that works but I think setting up a page would get the site out there more.

and the BJ option is a really good idea

OK, I am a big dumb idiot just saw the top right corner with the link to face book.

Moving Fight Pass/FS1 cards to BOTR lessens the burden and would allow players to pop in and out of BOTR however they choose. Like, if I miss a UFC BOTR event, its not going to affect my fight camp rankings. Bythar nailed it; it has become more of a chore than a game to keep up with these weekly sub-standard UFC events.

I think the live scoring would be so cool, especially at the end of the season when people are going for badges. Watching your points, wagers, and fight camp ranking move up or down fight by fight could make the game more exciting for people as they play along.

The prizes could be anything as little as ad-free or some type of website perks. Monetary prizes likely would draw people back in who have left.
