After injury forced Bryan Caraway to withdraw from next week’s UFC Fight Night 103, opponent Jimmie Rivera has now pulled himself from the card, as well.

MMAjunkie today confirmed with UFC officials that when Caraway was pulled from the event, Rivera (20-1 MMA, 4-0 UFC) was offered an opportunity to instead face either Marlon Vera (8-3-1 MMA, 2-2 UFC) or John Dodson (18-8 MMA, 7-3 UFC), who also volunteered for the assignment. Rivera initially accepted a fight with Vera but later changed his mind and will now wait for a future booking.

Interesting that there's been several fans in the mma community that say Caraway is ducking Rivera. But then Rivera accepts the fight with Vera only to realize it isn't in his interest and that he'd bully Vera. And rightfully so he'd be a huge favorite.

I'm just curious as to why he wouldn't take the Dodson fight. Dodson has said he's willing, Rivera is not. So is Rivera ducking him or is there more to it?

Im rank with the best let me fight the best @DominickCruz @TJDillashaw @Cody_Nolove I dont want a paycheck fight I want to fight the best! http://www.fightmatrix.com/mma-ranks/bantamweight/

Rivera #4, TJ #3, Cruz #2, Cody #1

So I would say he's looking to fight guys ahead of him, not behind him, esp a guy like Dodson who is coming off a loss (tho I actually thought he beat Lineker).

Rivera vs. Dillashaw set it up and let Cruz get his rematch, he was the best BW in the World for basically the past 10 years.

Match up Rivera with Cruz.

That's the fight I like. I think Cody and Dillahole should and would be the best fight as far as hype and dollars. Dom got beat and auto-rematches are beginning to really hold up divisions. Jimmie Rivera is a boring fighter if he can take his opponent down. Rivera is like a wet blanket and usually ground n' pounds his way to a decision. Dom should prevent Jimmie from creating a 15-25 minute snoozefest by keeping it on the feet. If this fight went down and Dom can stay away and on his feet he should grab a easy decision I think.
