And just like that, UFC 206 has a new main event.

Max Holloway vs. Anthony Pettis for the interim featherweight title is the new headlining act for the Dec. 10 card, MMA Fighting has learned. The fight replaces Daniel Cormier vs. Anthony Johnson, which was scrapped after Cormier withdrew from the fight due to an injury.

The UFC tried to book Johnson vs. Gegard Mousasi, however, Johnson has decided to wait for Cormier to return to action, sources say.

As a result, Jose Aldo, who was the interim featherweight champion, will likely become the new 145-pound champion, which also means that Conor McGregor is expected to be stripped of the featherweight title. He remains the lightweight champion.

Isn't Aldo the interm champ?

Aldo will likely become the champ, and McGregor is expected to be stripped. Doesn't that all need to take place before they can fight for the new interm strap?

No, no, the winner of this fight will have to unify the interim belt by fighting Aldo, after which the unified interim champion can challenge McGregor for the ACTUAL featherweight belt, really there aren't any other options.

2 Interim Championship belts in 1 division...Fucking stupid! I'm calling shenanigans!
McGregor has the belt, Jose has the Interim...you don't need to make a 2nd paper belt to sell the fight, it's a good fight and a fake belt doesn't change that. If they think this will somehow increase sales then I think they are sorely mistaken. Just make the winner the clear #1 contender and figure out where McGregor is concerning the FW division.

Conor can call Aldo whatever he wants....Aldo defended that belt 7 times, Conor 0.

Ya I agree... Conor maybe is the first dual division champion but he has yet to defend a title so really what kind of champ is that? Glad the UFC stripped him of the FW belt buts it's 2 fights too late. Should have happened when he moved up to WW to fight Nate.
