The UFC has cut eight fighters from its roster, including light heavyweight veteran Fabio Maldonado.

A source close to the promotion told MMAFighting.com that the UFC has released Maldonado, Chico Camus, Kevin Souza, Ericka Almeida, Bubba Bush, Mickael Lebout, Vernon Ramos and Jumabieke Tuerxun from their contracts.

Kevin Souza is the biggest surprise on this list. Also seems like Camus is a bit of a surprise too.

The hell. Guy loses once in a good fun fight and is cut, had finishes in his previous 2, what the hell.

The Souza release is definitely a surprise. He has a very fan-friendly fighting style and has put on some solid scraps but then gets cut after going 3-1.

I don't like a few of these cuts. Kevin Souza getting cut blows my mind. He put on the type of fights that Dana wants to see out of everyone, goes 3-1, and gets cut. From what I recall, he was winning that fight early on before getting subbed as well. I also don't agree with them cutting Camus and Lebout. Camus had struggled in the UFC but was against good competition and thought we had been seeing improvement from him in his last few fights. Lebout was cut after going 1-2. I thought he was robbed in his debut and should've been 2-1 with his only real loss to Steven Ray. I also want to complain about them cutting Kakai. I know it's been a while now but how do you cut him and keep Danny Martinez? Kakai looked really technical with his stand up, had a close loss to Saenz, and was cut?

I have been told @kevinsouzamma was not cut or released. He simply fought out final fight on current deal, so technically is a free agent.

Camus got a raw deal.

Losing to cejudo and horiguchi is nothing to be ashamed about.

But fucking amazing scotty jorgenson is still alive

Glad to hear that Souza still has a shot...hopefully he gets resigned.

When it comes to Chico, I would have liked to see him get one more crack against a lower opponent....but he has only 1 win in his last 5 outings so can't overly complain.

For those who were scratching their head at the Kevin Souza cut like I was, I just realized something.

I've read that Wallid Ismail (Former UFC fighter/current Jungle Fights President) has Chute Boxe style contracts with all his fighters. He'll promote you and try and get you to the big stage, but he tales 30%. That's how Jungle Fights went from Brazil's best MMA promotion to just being one of it's good ones. The contracts are scaring some prospects off.

Wallid Ismail/Jungle Fights are also part of the Rizin FF Alliance, they leant two fighters to Rizin. Since Kevin was Jungle Fights champ, I assume Wallid is his manager.

Dana banned future MFS fighters when Miletich signed on to coach IFL, Zuffa has done things like this in the past.

And if you think Zuffa isn't worried about Rizin, then why did they lend Kid Yamamoto to Rizin's main competitor?

With Mighty Mouse thinking about moving up to 135, and flyweight fights bringing in very low numbers I'm wondering if UFC is planning to scrap the division all together, it would explain why they cut someone like Camus, while keeping the Scotty and Cody Pfister around among others.

Ah, so he just wants to go to Rizin, UFC isn't punishing Wallid's guys. That`s good to hear.

I should've read this before I posted lol.

I don't see anything stating anything about a by one wanting to go to Rizin...in fact the only mention of Rizin is your post...don't start hugging nuts, you're better than that.
