With Khabib Nurmagomedov out of UFC 187, the promotion moved swiftly in finding a replacement to fight Donald Cerrone. It wasn't who many might expect though.

solid replacement and arguably makes for a more entertaining fight, depending on how you thought the khabib fight was going to go

This just went from a rank battle and possible title shot to a payday for Cowboy. Lame.

Not a lot they could do here but this is a disappointing replacement. Oh well, should be exciting nonetheless

Wanted a bigger name, but should be a fun stand up fight.

At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in the playground is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no props, and may the mods have mercy on your soul.

Cerrone should be the favorite, and rightfulyl so.

Cowboy's striking is based on aggression. While he can counter, he's more about retaliation than slipping and returning fire. Which works for him most of the time, what with that ridiculous chin. Makdessi, on the other hand, is much better at the stick-and-move style. He could absolutely frustrate Cowboy with his clean striking and smooth movement.

However, Makdessi's not a huge LW (which Cerrone is) and he's a bit lost on the ground (which Cerrone is not), so this isn't a super favorable matchup for him.

I think the smart play is on Cowboy standing and banging for a bit. If he comes out angry and just big brothers Makdessi (which I think is unlikely, but possible given the size advantage), I think he'll generally keep it standing, maybe finishing off with a submission if he manages to wobble Makdessi on the feet. If the standup is more of a stalemate, or if Makdessi generally wins the exchanges based on volume landed and avoided, Cowboy's wrapping him up and working him over on the ground.

I think it's a fight worth seeing, and I'm not completely counting out Makdessi, but there are better dark horse bets to make. Cowboy's just too complete of a fighter.

Makdessi has no ground game, so if Cowboy is really that concerned about winning this one, all he needs to do is take him down and lock in a submission. We saw how easily it was done when he fought Dennis Hallman. Cowboy might not be the grappler Hallman is, but he is up there. Regardless, this is Cowboy's fight to lose, just hopefully he doesn't come in to this one un-motivated with the opponent change. Makdessi was meh against Campbell till the KO. Cowboy should have no issue here.

Makdessi is going to take a beating. If this hits the ground for any amount of time Cerrone is ripping a limb off.
