Former UFC champion Anderson Silva is seriously considering competing at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Anyone know the typical age of Olympic competitors in TKD?

Every single potential Olympic Tae Kwon Do practitioner just collectively shit their pants

Here's an example of what a gold medal Olympic Tae Kwon Do match looks like. With a ll due respect I would be shocked to see Anderson lose to fighters like that

It'd be interesting, point fighting isn't really comparable to a MMA fight.
Only thing you can get a point for is hitting the color on the trunk protector cleanly, kicking the head cleanly, or penalties.
I'd really like to see him try it.

yeah it sounds ridiculous to hear a 40 year old goat of another sport say he wants to try for the olympics under a completely different sport.

That said I feel like his reflexes and massively higher experience could make him competitive.

The Olympic Committee is very strict...I'm not even sure they would actually accept him with the drug pop.

He will have to complete any ban he gets from the NSAC before the Olympics would even consider allowing him to compete.

Even then the Olympics takes a pretty hard line on any PED's and they may not allow him to participate when his suspension is over.

I do think he could be competitive though, It's not like he's a novice to the sport.

I'd be interested to see how it would go down.

The narrow rule set could throw him off. In sport martial arts, guys tailor their game to the particular rules.

Anderson could probably murder any of them in a real fight, but that doesn't mean they aren't better at playing that particular game than him (TKD).
