Retirement isn’t something any high level athlete or competitor ever looks forward to.
Just ask former Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre about that one because he’s retired and un-retired numerous times over the last several years.
But sometimes when the decision is just right, it sticks.
That’s the case for UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture, who officially walked away from active competition in MMA following a loss to Lyoto Machida at UFC 129 in April 2011.
A legend of the sport, Couture ended his career with a 19-11 record, but it’s not his overall wins and losses that made the former Olympic hopeful such an icon in MMA history. Couture seemed to make the impossible, possible, and he did it on more than one occasion.
But at 48 years of age and a budding movie career still humming along, including an extended role in the upcoming Sylvester Stallone action sequel The Expendables 2, Couture is happy in retirement and doesn’t see anything changing his mind.

Agreed. He's done a lot for the sport and he was a good fighter with an impressive list of accomplishments. But he's too old to be competitive in the ufc.

I agree with both of you in that hes just hit that point that he just cant keep up although it took him a lot longer to get to that point than it did for guys like Liddell and Tito

Couture deserves a Best Supporting Oscar for his brilliant role in The Expendables 2

I'd like to see the UFC let him beat someone up when he's 50.

I love Couture he's my alltime favorite fighter, but I see now reason for him to come back now. He's done it all and defied the odds like no other. He also was competitive waaaaaay longer than any other fighter. He'd still beat some of the UFC guys but there's no point in risking serious injury for him. Live it up Randy and make lots of $$$ on movies!! Thanks for all the great fights!!!

Even in the Machida fight I felt like I was watching an old man get beat up, it just felt wrong. The man is a mma legend but no body wants to see him get knocked out again

I would love to see Couture vs Liddell 4 or Ortiz 2 just before the curtain closes for the very very last time on Couture. Even one last superfight with Dan severn or Ken shamrock would be interesting ....

I hope you are joking. Just slip some LSD into the water jug at the retirement village if you want to see old people fight.
I'm all about watching fighters in their prime. I hate to watch an old fighter lose a fight he would have won, ten years ago, for a paycheck.

If Jamie Moyer and Omar Visquel can still play, and Gordie Howe played into his 50s, so can Couture

Are you serious ?? Couture retired at the right time. After Machida, there was no fights left for Couture in the UFC.
