there will never be a correct top 10 list ever..for any weight..its all subjective
I agree Gil is top 10...I think, imo, the only 2 people that can be said to be #1 in their division is GSP and Silva...and maybe Aldo
as for the other divisions, I dont think there is a clear cut #1

It just shows you what a few picture in the press can do. The guy is a top 10 LW no doubt I'd even say he has an argument for top 5 but he hasn't faced the type of competition needed to be ranked anywhere near number 1.
Maynard, Edgar, BJ and a few others in the UFC have faced much better competition and deserved to be ranked higher.

Yup, I agree 100% with both of you. It seems like rankings are just a popularity contest half the time. He just beat a guy that I personally had at number 8. I feel like that doesn't really qualify him the number 1 spot...

This is ridiculous, Gilbert Melendez should not be number 1. He is def a top 5 fighter and a great one at that, but to put him in front of Edgar and Maynard is stupid.

Weekly's rankings have always given a lot of respect to fighters outside the UFC. I think it's called for a lot of the time, especially for the divisions where the UFC is weakest, so my main criticism with their system is the practice of placing anyone who takes a loss one notch behind the person that beat them, which often gives the winner too much credit in the grand scheme when an upset takes place.
I'm pretty sure a large part of the logic in putting Melendez at the top was that Melendez completely destroyed Kawajiri and just looked in excellent form. With his buddies at Cesar Gracie's gym also making waves right now it's easy to look at Melendez as the total package, and the UFC lightweight belt was recently put on the line in a fight that ended in a draw. I think once that draw is settled, the rankings will have the UFC champion at the top again.

Gilbert Melendez is #1. He beat Aoki when he was #2. He absolutely crushed and finished a Top 10 LW in the first round. (When is the last time a Top 10 LW has finished a fellow Top 10 LW?)
Melendez is LEGIT and deserves to be #1. You guys will see when the belts get unified one day.
Furthermore, His resume tops Maynard ( Who only has one top 10 win (a LNP victory over Florian)

I would put him at no 3 behind Frankie and Maynard. Edgar beat the most dominating champion in lightweight history.

Didn't Nate Diaz beat Maynard on TUF? Something like that, can't remember...

maynard would dominate melendez. edgar would out strike and out wrestle melendez. florian would out strike melendez. guillard would out strike, out wrestle, and ktfo melendez. jim miller would beat melendez everywhere. melendez is legit but saying hes #1 is retarded

the 1 & 2 LW's fight to a draw then they stay at 1 & 2. You can't beat a guy at thats not even in the top 5 and shoot past the top 2 guys, what kind of country bumpkin logic is that? I think Melendez is in the top 5 but at number 5 with Edgar, Maynard, Pettis and Penn ahead of him in that order. Sure Penn lost twice to the #1 guy in back to back fight, but he also just went up a weight class and fought to a draw with the #2 WW and of course mauled hughes like he stole his shoes and Penn still says he wants fights at LW so thats why he is still on the list. I'm exstatic to see melvin guillard and jim miller making their wayup the rankings as well and very disappointed aoki is alowed in the top 10 after his fight with melendez where he spent a good part of the fight butt scooting across the cage after gil was just emberassing.

Melendez would have a couple losses if he faced top tier talent fight after fight..The fighters hes faced Clay Guida would beat and actually I think clay Guida would give Melendez the fight of his life...Clay Guida last two wins were more impressive in my eyes...

I couldnt of said it better...I would like the UFC to ask Gullard to go to strikeforce and whip Melendez and make him and everyone STFU...I think Clay Guida is even with Melendez as of right now...
