Fighting "Ruthless" pays off. That's because Robbie Lawler has been awarded the middleweight title shot he's been asking for as he will take on Ronaldo Souza at the upcoming Jan. 29 Strikeforce event, according to MMAFighting.com. Lawler went 2-1 in three fights in 2010, including two vicious knockouts that had Melvin Manhoef and Matt Lindland seeing tweety birds. In fact, his knockout of the latter was one of the most brutal KO's of the year. Savage enough that there were immediate calls for "The Law" to retire while "Ruthless" was pushed straight into a shot at the 185-pound strap. SF has yet to announce the event.

It's time to bring Robbie Lawler back to the UFC, I know he wouldn't be dominant, but he would be the most exciting gatekeeper out there, and he'd have several great match-ups.

This is going to be an insane clash of styles I think.
Can't wait to watch it.

I like Jacare in this fight but I'm not counting out Lawler at all.

If Jacare's smart, he'll show he can hang in the standup, maybe surprising Lawler a bit with his power and improved technique. That makes a takedown even easier, and from there Jacare can just drink Lawler's milkshake.

If Jacare decides his striking is godly now, his chances of winning the fight are far worse. Sure he's got a good chin, but Lawler's made a career out of this.

Basically I think if Lawler can lose to Shields he can lose to Jacare as well, but it mostly depends on Jacare's gameplan.

A classic striker vs grappler match. With two of the best
Very hard pick. But looking forward to it

Lawler is one of my favorites, glad to see him getting a shot at Souza. If Lawler doesn't catch him, which he easily can, then Souza could win a decision.

If you haven't already seen it, look up Lawler vs. Murilo Rua for the Elite XC title. Great fight, and I don't think I've ever seen one fighter so dominant over his opponent to the point where he can just play around, except Silva vs. Griffin of course.

totally agree.

This fight is a tough pick, but robby has a history of sub losses so I'm leaning towards Jacare.

Jacare has a decent chin and can easily sub Lawler as soon as it hits the ground, I suspect this won't be quick but it will be his victory for sure.

Robbie Lawler is definitely the man, but this will be his toughest fight since he fought Shields. Lawler showed great heart and a never-say-die attitude against Manhoef, which paid big dividends.

But did anyone expect anything different from his fight with Matt Lindland? Lindland should have retired after his fight with Vitor Belfort, and he was knocked out just as savagely against Lawler.

Would Ruthless be an exciting gate-keeper? Sure. Would he get many wins? Unless he gets fed tomato cans and promotional newcomers, I doubt it.

Well there aren't many great fighters at 185 as it would seem, Silva is number 1 and there are several guys within reach of number 2 and aside from Sonnen there aren't many guys that would take him down or strike with him for three rounds.
