UFC lightweight contender Clay Guida, who didn't need to cut any weight for his Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 13 Finale fight against Anthony Pettis, tells the MMA Nation radio show (via Pro MMA Now) that he recognizes his size disadvantage within the promotion's stacked 155-pound division and may even consider a drop to featherweight -- after he wins the lightweight title

I had no idea he didn't cut weight. He could actually be a real force at 145. There aren't a lot of guys like him there.

Im not gonna waste my time holding my breath for him to win the LW belt...although he does have the skills to do it..!!

He has the frame for 145.....a tad surprised that he didn't drop sooner.

He'll drop after he wins the Lightweight title? Guess we'll never see Guida at 145 then.

I like his odds against Edgar but if Maynard is the belt holder at the time of guida's shot than he probably won't be able to do anything.

Man I never knew Guida was walking around ABLE to drop weight. He never looked like he cut much but damn... at 145 he will be a monster!
I think it would be a good move for him, and I can kinda see how he's paving the road for whether he wins or loses to have something to fall back on.
Then it won't seem like he's dropping for any other reason than personal choice.
Or I'm wrong :)
Huge possibility there

Seriously he could do great things at 145, but i dont see him winning the LW title, so maybe he should just drop down now

Clay Guida is Jose Aldos kryptonite...He can take a punch sick cardio and would wrestle Aldo down and ground and pound..

I think he could be a champion at 145, but I don't think he'll ever be more than a gatekeeper at 55. I'd like to see him make this move.

If Guida is walking around 155, then dropping to 145 or 135 would be a good decision.

I will probably be flamed for saying this but at 145, I think he can take Aldo out of his elements and put him on the mat and grind out a decision win. His chin will help him close the distance and his animal fury will be too much for Aldo.

After seeing Hominick dominate Aldo in the late rounds, I think Guida will have more than a legitimate chance if and when he should get a title shot against Aldo.

Let the flames begin....

Glad someone thinks the same way.

If hes gonna wait till after he has the title then he will never move... I just don't see Guida ever getting the title if he makes it to a title shot.

Gatekeeper? He's already a contender.

Guida is getting nowhere close to that title.

Guida would have a very difficult time taking Edgar down but damn would that be a fun fight to watch. He won't win a title at 155 but I'd like to see him get his shot. 145 though I definitely see him beating Aldo. He has the perfect style to do it.

I think Guida is good at LW where his wrestling destroys most....but that is what is at the top of the LW heap right now.....and he has nothing else to bring to the table to take out another great wrestler. Now at 45 he could be to Aldo what Sonnen was to Silva.

If he's a contender it's only because like half of the top 10 vacated LW to go to other divisions. The guy has never beaten anyone in the top of the LW division. Pettis is the biggest win of his career, any time he gets a few winsand has to face someone at the top of the division, he loses to them. (Florian, Sanchez, Huerta and Griffin 4 years ago) That's pretty much the definition of a gatekeeper in my book. if he gets a title shot it will really only be because everyone who was actually in title contention left the division (Penn, Florian, Sanchez, etc.)

The weight cut will affect his cardio, just saying.

After seeing what Huerta did to Guida, i think its fairly safe to say Aldo is going to land some devastating knees.

Guida at 145 = Bad news for that whole division.

lightweight top contenders right now seem to be the non-finishing type...edgar, maynard, guida...

id rather see him at 145. that would be great. not to many strong wrestlers in that class so i think he'd have a better chance at the title there. though hes on his way to the title shot at 155, i dont think he's there yet.

Guida will beat Aldo at 145. Mendes might be his toughest test though

Its already been said Guida doesnt even cut for 155 so hed have no problem and to say it will affect Guidas cardio...well you mean he could only go a solid 8 rounds instead of tetn....It would affect mosts cardio but to me Guida is off the charts....Who do you see jumping in plpace doing there interviews at the end....

Back when he fought Florian Huerta he was a differnet fighter at a different camp....Hes with winners now and has a gameplan...listen to Guida the guy knows what hes talking about..>Wrestling wins championships...And Guida at 145 would get Aldo down...
