The UFC 223 disasters continue to pile on.

A few days ago, the card was supposed to be headlined by Tony Ferguson vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov, before a freak incident left the interim champ injured.

Yesterday, Conor McGregor’s bus attack also led to three other cancelled bouts.

Max Holloway stepped in to try and save the main event, but there were concerns about his massive weight cut all week. Friday morning, the featherweight champion failed to make it to the weigh ins and was subsequently declared “medically unfit to fight” by the New York State Athletic Commission.

Dana White announced it as the early weigh-ins were happening.

Omgoosh! Unfortunately we won't be able to add Khabib vs Pettis because of the 48 hr rule.

Thanks a lot Conor

He's not to blame for this fight but he screwed up the entire card losing 2 great fights Pettis vs Chiesa and Borg vs Moreno. And who cares about Lobov the .500 fighter.

Get rid of this cancer known as Conor Double McStrip.

From what I read, No Pettis because he wanted more money and weighed .2 over.

They were going t odo Felder but the commission wouldn;t let it because in their minds, Felder isn't ranked high enough in the UFC rankings for them to allow it.

Ragin Al weighed .2 pounds over as well.

At this point it seems like they should just cancel the event. I don't remember what the window was when Jon refused to fight chael but with just the headline scrapped they cancelled the whole thing.

It does seem pretty ridiculous they can bar Felder from fighting based on arbitrary rankings.

This is a complete mess.

Cancel the entire card!?!? Bit of an overreaction don't ya think? What about everyone else on this card? JJ v Rose 2?

Not ranked high enough? The fuck does that have to do with anything? The entire rankings is fucked up anyhow. UFC still fucking with pay whilst trying to save main event

No, Conor throwing a dolly through a window is an overreaction. They lost 4 fights including a main event in 1 day. UFC151 was cancelled because they lost only the main event, that was a week out.

Now they have even less time to figure their situation out, it's too late to air it on TV, and fuck all are going to buy a ppv for a rematch that really doesn't have much hype behind it.

It's probably better to just pay the fighters their show money, scatter as many of them throughout upcoming cards as possible, and have rose vs jj headline the next weekend or something. maybe they can recover some of their losses from Conor's pockets.

This is the latest on this situation

Ariel Helwani - @arielhelwani

Anthony Pettis is not weighing in again. He is still in play to fight Khabib but it would be a 3 rounder, per NYSAC. No decision yet. Felder and Iaquinta are options but so much is fluid.

It'll probably be around another hour or so before we get any clarification what's happening with Khabib and the main event.

Ariel Helwani - @arielhelwani

Sentiment appears to be that Al Iaquinta is emerging as the frontrunner to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov. The issue is the .2 extra. Unclear if it would be for the belt or not. If he had weighed in at 155 this would have been a lot easier. Developing.

Am I the only one that kind of would like to see Lauzon & Khalabib? Lauzon's BJJ from guard would be interesting against Khalabib's top game. Might be an absolute slaughter. But then again...

You might be the only one on the planet... I don't even think Lauzon is interested in it.

Another report says Pettis is still the front runner. "NYSAC is trying not to let Anthony Pettis fight in the main event. They’re saying that he is not “fit” for a 5 round fight. UFC officials are trying to work on reversing their decision."

Maybe Dan Lauzon would, I thought they had bad blood. This is not the Joe from 10 years ago, there's not one part of his game that would hold up here.

I'd like it to be Al, but I'll settle for Pettis just so Khabib can still stay on the card.... even though it doesn't really interest me.

Don't need to make a new thread since this isn't set yet.

No Pettis, no Felder, so UFC targeting Al Iaquinta vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 223

With Max Holloway ruled out of the UFC 223 main event, the UFC had a few other lightweight options to salvage Khabib Nurmagomedov’s place on the card.

After first turning to former champion Anthony Pettis (20-7 MMA, 7-6 UFC), then Paul Felder (15-3 MMA, 7-3 UFC), only to have both denied, the promotion now is targeting Al Iaquinta (13-3-1 MMA, 8-2 UFC) for a fight against Nurmagomedov, a person close to the event told MMAjunkie. The person requested anonymity because negotiations still are ongoing.

NY is the most scared of all the commissions that somebody will die on their watch.

The rankings thing is dumb though since Holloway wasn't ranked at 155 either.

Ariel Helwani - @arielhelwani

Nurmagomedov vs. Iaquinta is all but signed, sources confirm. Agreed. Would be 5 rounds. Would be main event.

You haev mmajunkie and Ariel reporting it, then it's likely true.

I just woke up. This is so disappointing, this has got to be the most cursed card in UFC history by far. Iaquinta vs Khabib now....no thanks.

I have twitter up and following closely to all this until I have to go to work in a little. Very crazy stuff. Petts & Felder to be booked for another card. UFC 223 goes from 14 fights to 9. WOW.
