The lightweight title still will be up for grabs in the UFC 223 main event.

Khabib Nurmagomedov (25-0 MMA, 9-0 UFC) will stay in the headliner in New York and will fight Al Iaquinta (13-3-1 MMA, 8-2 UFC), who will move up from the main-card opening fight against Paul Felder (15-3 MMA, 7-3 UFC) for the fight. A person close to the fight revealed the news to MMAjunkie today. The person requested anonymity because he was not authorized to reveal the booking news.

But because Iaquinta weighed in for his fight with Felder at 155.2 pounds, he will be ineligible to win the title since that number is two-tenths of a pound over the title-fight limit.

Ariel Helwani - @arielhelwani

Dana White just announced that Al Iaquinta, if he wins, will be considered UFC champion. White said that NYSAC may not recognize him as champ because of the .2 but he will. That is a new one.

This is just ridiculous.

We're only gonna be able to pick like 8 fights or so since the site rules won't allow us to add new fights within a 48hr period.

Went from one of the most highly anticipated ppv's of the year to a completed disaster.

So we won't be able to makes picks and wagers on Khabib vs Al?

I thought I've seen fights added here on less than 48hrs notice before. No?

I wonder if they'll do Pettis vs Felder now?

No. They're team mates so they don't want to fight each other. They're both off the card now.

They should do the fans a favor with all of this mess & make it free on FS1.

Dana White just announced that Al Iaquinta, if he wins, will be considered UFC champion. White said that NYSAC may not recognize him as champ because of the .2 but he will. That is a new one.

Dana said the commission weighed Al's underwear and it weighed .2 pounds, so basically he'll get the belt if he wins.

Aerial Helwani & Damon Martin reported that if Al Iaquinta wins he will be considered the LW Champion by the UFC, but that the commission will not recognize him as champion due to the .2 over 155.

Where did you read anything about underwear being weighed?

Dana said it on the presser.

Chamatkar Sandhu - @SandhuMMA

Dana White just said that the NYSAC weighed Al Iaquinta's underwear and it weighed 0.2lbs. THAT IS BRUTAL.

Chamatkar Sandhu - @SandhuMMA

Well I have to applaud the UFC on this decision. It's the right call. The damn underwear weighed exactly 0.2lbs so Al Iaquinta made the championship weight limit. He 100% should be fighting for the title. This event keeps taking incredible twists and turns in the narrative.

Karyn Bryant - @KarynBryant

Al weighed in at 155.2, then showed NYSAC that his underwear weighed .2 on the same scale. That proved he actually WAS on the title fight mark of 155lbs. In my understanding, Dana and the commission are working to resolve this; but the #UFC is considering it a title fight already

No unfortunately that's a no. Must be mistaken because there's never any Big Show Fights added inside of the 48hr window. Just think of all the TUF finalist that we never add to the finale cards because of that 48hr timeframe.

Personally I'd love to be able to pick as many fights as possible. But I can't bend the rules.

I can overlook things, help folks out but I can't allow that fight to be added to the Fantasy Game. Sorry! I'm just the messenger.

Good luck Braden

And for L2 Events me and Budge don't add fights after Monday Night at Midnight which is even a larger window. But that's irrelevant to your concern but thought I'd point that out if you and others were curious as to how we handle that part of the game.

Was Al not given the opportunity to weigh in without his drawers? What happened to the towel?

The weighins were over before he even got the fight so he never had a 2nd chance. That's why they weighed his gitch afterwards.

Sucks we only get to pick 8 fights.

What a disaster!

Had to edit my side game picks several times.

The fact that the UFC dedicated almost entire Embedded episode to this melee only shows that the UFC only cares about money and not ethics. He needs to be fired and jailed. End of discussion. The fact he loaded up his goon squad to fly to NY to attach shows forethought/malice/conspiracy to commit a felony. Judge needs to throw the book at him.

McGregor made $100 million againsf Mayweather & is probably set to make that same pay day when they fight in the octagon. He walked around like he was untouchable & now pulling this stunt maybe woke him up that he can’t get away with this kind of bullshit.

UFC and the boxing promoters only care about money so the McGregor-Mayweather fight will still happen. This incident here is just more publicity for McGregor & as rich as he is now will get out of it with a slap on the wrist, but hopefully a lesson learned. I really doubt that he intentionally meant get anybody cut by glass & have fights cancelled.
