PITTSBURGH – Charlie Brenneman was a winner even before he stepped into the cage at Sunday's UFC on Versus 4 event.

After a series of events left Brenneman without an opponent and the event without a headliner, the hometown hero stepped in on a day's notice against red-hot welterweight Rick Story.

That decision made him fearless. A crowd-rousing walkout made him a local favorite. And his eventual victory made him nothing short of a legend, UFC president Dana White told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).

Brenneman, a Pennsylvania native who fought at Pittsburgh's CONSOL Energy Center, was yanked from the card earlier this week when opponent T.J. Grant fell ill. But there was a glimmer of hope for the "Spaniard," who desperately wanted to fight close to home.

I wouldn't either, because Rocky loses his fight in the movie lol. People always make this comparison when someone gets an out-of-nowhere victory, but really Rocky gets his ass kicked and loses the fight, he only wins after he makes his comeback in the sequels.

"His fight tonight was a Rocky story," White said of Brenneman. "He's in his hometown, and he gets the shot at the guy who's hot and on his way to a title shot. He comes in and wins it. That's the thing about this sport. You never know who's going to win."

This is not what happens in the movie ^^^ LOL.

Story was definitely on the rise--had a couple big time wins over Alves and top prospect Hendricks. The Rocky comparisons...I wouldn't go that far. Great performance by Charlie though..his wrestling looked phenomenal.

Although he took the bout on one days notice, I thnk a lot of people are forgetting he was scheduled to fight TJ Grant originally...so it's not like he wasn't in fighting shape.

This is simply a case of a no name who is obviously a good wrestler but has not received recognition.

Is he championship material? I doubt it -

Like others have said, Dana is simply looking for new faces to hype. The ufc should be hyping Kim right now because after the GSP vs Diaz fight, who are they going to scrounge up besides Kim to fight the champion given Kim prevails over Condit in their meeting.

Let me retract a little: Besides Fitch and Kim

We all know Fitch is the true number one contender.
