The opportunity to fight at home was too much for Chris Weidman to pass up.

The former UFC middleweight champion and Long Island, N.Y. native will meet Kelvin Gastelum in the main event of UFC on FOX 25 at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on July 22, the company announced Friday.

Kelvin has looked unstoppable at MW. Problem is that Weidman is a big MW. The Kelvin train may stop here, but Weidman has shown he doesn't handle strikes well.

Iiiiiiinteresting fight, especially with it being 5 rounds. It's Weidman's to lose based on his speed, size, and wrestling, but Kelvin excels as the underdog and he has a ridiculous level of ability.

I think a bigger risk to any guy is a withdraw from the fight due to injury (Weidman) or weed (Gastelum). These guys really need to get their shit together, because this could be a fantastic scrap.

Was unaware you could withdraw due to "weed". Whatever "weed" is. You mean like dandelions? I suffer from Hay Fever during the spring time. I hope Kelvin can get on some Claritin/Zyrtec and be clean and clear by fight time.

I don't like this fight for Weidman, I know he wants to keep facing top competition but now he's facing potentially 4 losses in a row. He should have a lot of size on KG though like you guys said and is just as good if not a better grappler. He'll likely use his size to take KG down but it's a risky fight for him.

Just not a good idea for Chris at all...dude needs a COUPLE of tune up fights, and Kelvin is not a tune up fight at all.

This is such a dangerous fight for Weidman to take. He could not only lose four in a row, but with three straight losses in New York. That would be brutal.

I understand what you guys are saying about Weidman, that he should take a lesser fight against Leites or Alvey or whomever, but there's also an obligation to give Kelvin a step up in competition. From a sheer rankings standpoint, the fight makes sense, from the standpoint of Weidman's viability moving forward, maybe it doesn't.
