Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem's next title defense is currently uncertain, but his next opponent isn't. Overeem has verbally agreed to face Ricco Rodriguez at DREAM 15 on July 10. Paperwork pending, a formal announcement should soon follow. In related news, as a result of this Rodriguez is now likely off Impact FC 2 on July 18, where he was to have faced Jeff Monson.

11 Days away? This is a dangerous dangerous fight for Overeem, what if he losses? What would that mean for Fedor and Wedrum?

For Strikeforce this could be make or break....

If recent history is any indication, nothing. Remember that Brett Rogers lost before he got his title shot, and this fight would be non-title anyway so it's little more than Overeem fulfilling some Japan commitments.

Ubereem wont lose his belt in this fight so the fedor werdum will happen no matter what. If they sign to fight him.

Well..... Aoki and Whitemare lost and Dream didn't fall so I will say that Overeem losing wouldn't be the end of the world, and since Fedor lost HW plans are already ruined.

I don't like this fight for Ricco. He has been quietly working himself into a comeback since his stint on Celeb Rehab. Amongst other things, he has slimmed down quite a bit and was making 205. A fight against the behemoth that is the modern Overeem does not seem like a step in the right direction to me.

Ricco was once good enough to be champ, but I see him losing this fight. Overeem should fight whereever he wants, as long as he competes in SF. I think fighters are disrespecting Overeem and the SF belt (like Werdum, who imo has a right to) because the belt Overeem has does not mean much yet. By having Overeem fight elsewhere, the belt becomes more worthless imo. I would like to see Overeem go to the UFC, especially since Werdum wants a Fedor rematch, and Fedor has 1 fight left. Someone also needs to ko Lashley imo, maybe Overeem can be first for that job.

if this fight makes it past the 1st round I will be shocked. Overeem by TKO.

Well, Overeem should win this easy, so it won't matter. But seriously, this is why I hate contracts that aren't exclusive. It's a shame that Strikefore is ok with their Champion taking fights outside of their organization. Seriously, who is psyched about this fight? If ricco DOES get hurt, Strikeforce's Champ is on the shelf from a fight outside their organization.

It can produce fights fans wanna see, but from a buisness aspect, contracts that aren't exclusive make little to no sense.

Not so fast. Overeem's manager says this isn't happening. "Sources" say the bout isn't even close to being official.
